In Monster Hunter Wilds, an old acquaintance makes a return, and this time, it’s packing a punch that could give any hunter nightmares – it’s none other than Rathalos, but in its Guardian form! This version of the beast isn’t just deadly; it’s downright terrifying. With an assortment of elemental attacks, new moves, and an arsenal that can wreak havoc, taking on this Guardian Rathalos is a fight that will test even the bravest of hunters. However, for those daring enough to face it, the rewards are plentiful – not only is it a thrilling battle, but defeating this creature multiple times yields valuable materials, making the challenge more than worthwhile.
Guardian Rathalos Weaknesses
In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, the Guardian Rathalos is quite formidable, but luckily, it has some vulnerabilities you can utilize. The tricky part is landing those vulnerable spots, which I’ll delve into later. For now, here are some elemental attacks you can prepare:
1. Fireblast
2. Thunderclap
3. Icy Spear
4. Dragonpiercer
5. Water Cannon
These elemental moves could potentially deal extra damage to the Guardian Rathalos and help you in your hunt. Good luck!
- Thunder
- Dragon
Thus far, it’s advisable to have weapons empowered by Thunder for combat at Low Rank. If you lack this type, consider using Dragon when battling Rathalos. Regarding status effects, we discourage their use, particularly against Rathalos due to its swiftness. Applying status effects may prove challenging given its agility. Instead, concentrate on inflicting elemental damage.
For attacking its vulnerable areas, Rathalos has several options: mouth, tail, legs, and wings. These spots are particularly weak, but since Rathalos is quite agile, they’re not always accessible when it’s stationary. However, if it stands still for a while, you can easily target these weak points. Despite this, Rathalos is highly mobile, making it difficult for melee combatants to land hits unless some wounds have been inflicted first. Ranged users typically find fewer problems in this fight, so if you’re versatile and skilled in both styles, consider bringing a ranged weapon for this encounter.
Hunt Strategy
For seasoned Monster Hunter players, Guardian Rathalos in Wilds retains several moves from past games but also introduces new strategies to be mindful of. A key element to note is the Wyvern Milk crystals, which replace the energy crystals of previous versions. When Rathalos unleashes its Guardian energy and forms these crystals, you should employ a strategy similar to that used against other Guardian monsters: strike the crystals with elemental ammunition. Ideally, gather all Dragon ammo available in the arena and use it to detonate the crystals, causing damage to Rathalos. This method works best for melee combatants. Long-range fighters should stock up on Dragon ammo and attack both the monster and the crystals. Additionally, keep in mind these tips:
1. Be cautious when Rathalos charges at you, as it can knock you off balance or deal significant damage.
2. Watch for the “Tail Whip” move where Rathalos whips its tail to create an energy wave that can stun you. Avoid this attack by moving out of the way quickly.
3. During the “Roar” attack, cover your ears and prepare for a powerful shockwave that can send you flying or cause temporary deafness.
4. Keep an eye on Rathalos’s wings; if they start to glow, it means a devastating aerial assault is imminent. Dodge accordingly to avoid heavy damage.
- Melee fighters should focus on the legs first.
- This might be an obvious tip, but melee fighters will have a hard time hitting Rathalos when it is at full health. For that, aim at its legs and open a few wounds. Once you break them and Rathalos falls down, move to its wings or head. Attacking the former will reduce its mobility, while attacking the latter will do more damage. It’s up to you to decide which part you’ll focus on first.
- Don’t try to bring it to another monster’s territory.
- Often, we lure monsters to turf wars, hoping for our target to receive some damage. However, Rathalos is an apex predator, and it’ll make short work of any monster that crosses its path. This will also cause mayhem for you, so don’t try leading Rathalos to an unnecessary fight.
- Definitely use an SOS flare for this one.
- So far, we haven’t recommended any SOS flare usage for fights. Most of them are quite easy and should not give you any trouble. However, Rathalos, even in Low Rank, is a terrifying creature, and bringing an AI companion or other players will make the fight much easier.
