In Where Winds Meet, you’ll encounter a wide range of bosses, each with unique attacks and behaviors. Defeating them requires mastering both your character’s setup and your own gameplay skills. This is especially true on the harder Expert and Legend difficulties, where bosses are even more challenging.
After the first part of the game’s story, you’ll have a chance to battle Yi Dao, also known as the Killerblade. He’s a powerful opponent, as you’ve already experienced, so prepare for a challenging fight. Details on his location and how to defeat him are provided below.
Yi Dao Boss Location

You’ll find the Yi Dao boss fight in a dreamlike version of Blissful Retreat. To get there, simply touch the sword close to the burned building in the northwest corner of Blissful Retreat, and it will take you to the Dreamscape version of the area.
Continue along the path, using the Cloud Steps to leap across the mountain until you reach Yi Dao at the area’s end.
Yi Dao Boss Fight Walkthrough
Yi Dao fights by both leaping into the air to strike with his sword and sending out waves of energy, making it dangerous to fight him up close or far away. His signature move involves jumping up and swinging his sword downwards. This attack is special because if you successfully block it, you’ll automatically launch a powerful counterattack that deals a lot of Qi damage.
Yi Dao often follows up his attacks with a jump attack from above, so learning when to parry this move is crucial.
Be careful of Yi Dao’s energy wave attack. It comes in two types: a single wave of red energy, and a more dangerous version where Yi Dao fires three waves rapidly one after another. There’s only a brief pause between the second and third wave, so dodging is much safer than trying to block, particularly when you’re far from the boss.
Yi Dao attacks in a way that’s hard to anticipate, combining sword strikes with forceful shoulder bumps. He doesn’t move around much during these attacks, so it’s better to dodge completely and wait for the combo to end, instead of trying to block each hit.
Sometimes, Yi Dao will raise his sword and begin charging it with energy. While he’s doing this, you can use the “Celestial Sieze” ability to grab the sword and strike back. This counterattack won’t do a lot of health or energy damage, but it will let you dodge his attack.
Yi Dao also has an attack where he holds his sword to the side, charges it with energy, and then brings it down in a strong overhead swing that actually hits twice. If you try to block this attack, remember to block both swings, not just the first one.
Yi Dao’s gold attack starts with him building up energy for a moment. Then, he quickly attacks with multiple slashes in front of him, immediately followed by a dash that can be blocked. If you’re hit by the initial attack, you’ll keep taking damage, but quickly pressing the block button will usually let you block the final dash.
Yi Dao’s most powerful attack involves him slamming his sword into the ground, followed by three waves of shadow clones that automatically attack you in an arc. To avoid it, perfectly dodge backward when the first wave comes, getting yourself out of range, and then stay far enough away until all three waves have finished.
To defeat Yi Dao, you need to learn his attack patterns and find the right moment to dodge or block, which is similar to fighting any boss in the game. If you’re struggling, consider lowering the difficulty level or upgrading your equipment before trying again.
