How to Destroy Buildings & Rails in StarRupture

As you expand your base in StarRupture with more extractors, smelters, and launchers to fulfill organizational tasks, things can quickly become cluttered. Luckily, the game allows you to destroy or delete buildings and rails, letting you reorganize your base for better efficiency and a cleaner look. This guide will show you how to delete unwanted structures and keep your base running smoothly.

Deleting Rails and Structures in StarRupture

You’ll Even Get All Your Materials Back!

If you need to remove a building, structure, or rail – whether it’s misplaced or just blocking your expansion – simply press the ‘F’ key to enter Deconstruction Mode. Then, move your mouse cursor over the item you want to remove and click and hold the left mouse button. You’ll see a circle appear around the cursor icon as the item disappears.

After it’s used up, the structure will vanish, and you’ll get back all the materials you used to build it.

Okay, so at first, I totally just threw things together to get my base going – it was a bit chaotic, honestly! But I quickly realized that if I really wanted to make the most of everything in Arcadia-7 and not waste space, I had to tear down a lot of my early stuff and rebuild it all smarter. It’s kind of painful, but totally worth it to have a much more efficient system in the end.

When you’re in Deconstruction Mode, you’ll see a line through the building icon, and a message will appear showing how many building materials you’ve recovered.

Can You Edit or Move Existing Structures in StarRupture?

Things get a little tricky here. Right now, while the game is still in early access, you can’t directly select a building and move or edit it. This can be frustrating – sometimes you just want to quickly rotate a building to change the direction of its connections, making it easier for things like ore extractors or smelters to share materials in your production line.

We’re planning to add a rotation feature in a future update, either during early access or with the full game release. For now, the only way to change a building’s position or direction is to completely remove it using deconstruction mode and then rebuild it where you want.
