The recent 2025 Winter’s Jest event for Phasmophobia introduced three new ghosts: Obambo, Dayan, and Gallu. This brings the total number of ghosts in the game to 27. Each ghost has unique behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses, and players will need to gather the right evidence to identify them.
It’s great that two of the newly added ghosts can be detected using the Spirit Box, making it a more valuable tool. The same is true for both EMF Level 5 and Ultraviolet light – they’re now more effective at finding ghosts.
Gallu
| Evidence | ||
|---|---|---|
| EMF Level 5 | Ultraviolet | Spirit Box |
- Strength: Using protective equipment pushes the ghost to become enraged, weakening equipment effects.
- Weakness: Being enraged exhausts the Gallu, making protective equipment more effective.
The Gallu is a particularly dangerous ghost because it reacts negatively to players using crucifixes and similar protective items. Leaving these items in the room where the Gallu appears can actually provoke it to hunt more aggressively, and they won’t work as well at stopping it. In fact, they might even make the Gallu move faster.
If players manage to survive encounters with the Gallu for a significant amount of time, they might observe it becoming fatigued and moving slower. This change in speed is a key clue to its true nature. If the creature steps in salt or crosses over a crucifix while moving slowly, and then quickly recovers its energy and speed, it’s almost certainly a Gallu.
Obambo
| Evidence | ||
|---|---|---|
| Ghost Writing | Ultraviolet | D.O.T.S Projector |
- Strength: While aggressive, the Obambo is quicker to start hunting.
- Weakness: While calm, the Obambo is slower to start hunting and easier to track.
The recently added Obambo ghost in Phasmophobia changes between a calm and aggressive mode every two minutes. When calm, it only begins hunting if a player’s sanity falls below 10% and moves at a speed of 1.45 meters per second. When aggressive, it hunts more often, starting at 65% sanity, and moves faster at 1.96 meters per second. Fortunately, these aggressive hunting periods don’t last very long.
This ghost is unusual because its behavior can change suddenly during a hunt, which might be helpful or harmful – and could even reveal it as an Obambo. When not actively hunting, it’s more restless when angry, but very quiet when calm. Pay close attention to these shifts in behavior, and be patient when gathering evidence, as it doesn’t leave much behind when it’s relaxed.
Dayan
| Evidence | ||
|---|---|---|
| EMF Level 5 | Ghost Orb | Spirit Box |
- Strength: The Dayan gains strength to protect herself if people ‘dance’ too close to her.
- Weakness: The Dayan loses strength if people close to her stand still.
The Dayan is a relatively slow and non-aggressive ghost. A key sign it’s a Dayan is that it slows down dramatically if players stop moving during a hunt. If a ghost speeds up immediately after you or a teammate moves within 10 meters, it’s likely a Dayan – its speed nearly doubles, making it quite noticeable. However, if it speeds up without any player movement, it’s probably a different ghost, like an Obambo or Gallu, changing its behavior.
You can tell if a ghost is a Dayan by checking its gender. Currently, Dayans and Banshees always appear as female. If you see a male ghost, it definitely isn’t a Dayan.
