Playing My Winter Car is challenging and best experienced after playing My Summer Car. This demanding game realistically simulates the difficulties of car ownership in Finland during 1999, requiring you to manage every aspect of vehicle maintenance. Before tackling advanced repairs and upgrades, you’ll need to master the fundamentals – like defrosting, starting, and driving your car.
Players who know how a traditional manual car functions will have an edge, particularly when dealing with older vehicles made before the year 2000.
How To Defrost Your Car In My Winter Car
In My Winter Car, you’ll need to defrost your car before you can drive. To start, get inside. Then, look at the ignition and click once to put the key in.
Turning The Heater & Blower On
Once the engine is running, find the square button on the right side of the dashboard – it’s the Window Heater. When you press it, a yellow light should illuminate.
Below this is the Blower. Press this twice to make it the most powerful.
You can adjust the temperature with the Scroll Button, and it’s best to begin with the highest setting. Keep in mind that direction also matters.
Scrape The Windows
The heater will eventually defrost your windows, but you can make it faster by scraping them. Go outside your car and, when a hand icon appears above each window, hold down the left mouse button and drag it downwards to scrape away the frost, starting from the top.
You should hear a scraping sound to let you know it’s working.
It’ll take some time to complete, but working on the driver’s window and the left side of the windshield will allow you to start driving.
How To Turn The Engine On In My Winter Car
Starting the engine in My Winter Car isn’t as simple as it seems. You’ll first need to switch into driving mode by pressing the Enter key.
Next, put the key in the ignition and turn it, or simply press the ignition button once. You should see some lights come on in the dashboard.
If the engine is cold, which is common, you’ll need to use the choke. It’s located to the left of the steering wheel and you activate it by left-clicking. Make sure the car is in neutral – you’ll see an ‘N’ on the bottom right of the screen – while you do this.
To start the engine, press and hold the left mouse button on the ignition to increase the engine speed. Once you’re driving, gradually push the choke in using the right mouse button.
Using Gears & Driving In My Winter Car
If you’re not used to driving a manual transmission car, you’ll need to get the hang of it! The game will begin with your car in neutral, which you’ll see marked with an ‘N’ on the lower right of the screen.
Gears can go up with G and down with B.
- R – Reverse
- N – Neutral
- 1 – 1st Gear
- 2 – 2nd Gear
- 3 – 3rd Gear
- 4 – 4th Gear
- 5 – 5th Gear
Even though you might normally use ‘S’ to move backwards with WASD controls, remember to use ‘W’ to accelerate when in Reverse.
The auto-clutch feature is enabled by default in the settings. However, players can also control the clutch manually using the X button.
Setting Off
To start driving, you’ll also need to release the handbrake. You can do this by clicking on it after looking at it, or by pressing the Spacebar.
You can shift into first gear to move forward, and pressing the ‘W’ key acts like pressing the gas pedal to start driving.
Turning & Breaking
You can use A and D to turn left and right, while S is the brake.
Remember to apply the handbrake again when parking.
Other Important Car Controls In My Winter Car
My Winter Car has many useful keyboard shortcuts for driving and controlling your vehicle. Here are some of the most important ones to get you started.
- J – Push: If your car gets stuck, get out and enter push mode with J.
- L – Lights: While driving at night, turn your headlights on.
- Arrow Keys – Blinkers: Before turning left or right, turn the indicator on with the arrow keys.
After entering driving mode, you should look behind to the left and drag your seatbelt into place.
