How to Enchant Items in No Rest for the Wicked

As you progress in No Rest for the Wicked, you’ll naturally start experimenting with different ways to improve your character. Once you’ve collected resources like Stag Skulls and gems, you’ll likely want to upgrade and customize your equipment.

This game lets you customize items with a unique enchantment system. You can remove enchantments from magical gear, add them to ordinary items, and even boost their power with gemstones. Mastering this system is key to success, especially as you approach the game’s finale.

Okay, so I’ve been diving into No Rest for the Wicked, and enchantments are a huge deal for getting stronger. I wanted to put together a guide to everything I’ve learned, so you can boost your gear and become a real force to be reckoned with!

Creating Magical Items

To improve your gear in No Rest for the Wicked, you’ll use items called Embers. Different Embers have different effects, letting you customize how you enhance your equipment.

Magical items can be made in a couple of different ways. One method involves using an Awakening Ember, which turns an ordinary item into a magical one with three special abilities.

When you use an Ember on an item, it will glow blue, showing that it’s now magic. Keep in mind that you can’t use Awakening Embers on items that are already magical or cursed.

You can also create magical items by working with Eleanor, a shop owner in Sacrament’s marketplace. Improving her shop unlocks the ability to create more powerful enchantments and infusions.

Talk to Eleanor and select the “enchant” option. This lets you magically enhance regular items you’re carrying. Keep in mind that when Eleanor enchants something, there’s a possibility it could become either powerfully magical or unfortunately plagued.

Creating Plagued Items

Cursed items aren’t quite like regular magical items. They appear with a reddish tint and possess three enchantments that are stronger than those found on typical magic items.

However, this powerful ability isn’t without its downsides. Each item affected by the plague carries a negative consequence, potentially making it impossible to repair, draining your stamina, or causing other undesirable effects.

Plagued items are made using a Corrupting Ember. Eleanor can also craft them, but the outcome is random, similar to how magic items are created.

Changing Enchantments

A crucial part of preparing for a challenge is deciding which magical enhancements to add to your equipment. While getting enchantments normally relies on chance, there’s a method to guarantee the specific enhancements you want.

You can transfer enchantments from one item to another using Essence Embers. These Embers work by completely destroying the original item, but letting you move its enchantments onto a different magical or cursed item you own.

To use an Essence Ember, choose the item you want to modify from your inventory and then pick the enchantment you want to take off. This saves the enchantment in the Ember, but the original item is destroyed.

After capturing an enchantment within an Essence Ember, you can transfer it to a different item. However, there are a few limitations to keep in mind.

Okay, so I’ve figured out something about these cursed items! It looks like if you remove an enchantment from one, you can only put it on another cursed item. The way to tell if an enchantment is cursed is super easy – the text will be red. So if you see red text, you know it’s a cursed enchantment!

Certain magical enhancements can only be used on specific types of equipment. For example, some enchantments work only on gloves, while others can be used on any armor piece.

Fallen Embers let you re-enchant your gear, though the new enchantment will be chosen at random. You can also use them to change the negative effect on items affected by a plague.

Enhancing Enchantments

You can also make your equipment’s magical enhancements stronger. But you won’t do this with Eleanor; instead, you’ll need to use either Sublime or Radiant Embers.

Sublime Embers let you significantly boost a random magical property on your gear. We used it to improve our Thorns ability, increasing it from 19% to 43%.

Radiant Embers boost particular magical enchantments. When applied, you select which enchantment gets stronger, though the improvement isn’t as significant as with a Sublime Ember.

Applying and Removing Infusions

Besides enchantments, you can also add special effects to your equipment to improve your character. These effects are different from enchantments and come from items you find by defeating enemies or opening chests.

After gathering the items you want to infuse, go see Eleanor at her shop in Sacrament. Select the “infuse” option, and then choose the item from your inventory that you want to use to enhance your equipment.

Certain gemstones can give you benefits like health regeneration, while others add elemental damage. But what if you accidentally use a gemstone that gives you an effect you don’t want?

To remove an infusion, go to Eleanor’s shop and open the infusion menu. Select the item you want to modify, then choose to either destroy or extract the infusion.

Okay, so just a heads-up for anyone wondering: if you choose to destroy an item for its gem, the gem is gone for good. But if you try to extract the gem, you’ll get the gem, but sadly, the item itself will be broken in the process. It’s a tough choice!
