How to Evolve Beldum in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Beldum is a fascinating Pokémon first appearing in the third generation of games. It quickly became known as one of the most powerful Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon due to its unique Steel and Psychic typing. In Pokémon Legends Z-A, Beldum evolves into Metang, becoming even stronger, and ultimately transforms into Metagross – a truly powerful Pokémon capable of competing with the very best.

Metagross isn’t the only powerful form returning in Legends Z-A – its even stronger Mega Evolution is back! Wondering how to obtain Beldum and evolve it into Mega Metagross? This guide covers everything you need, including where to find Beldum, the Mega Stone, and all the relevant stats.

Where To Catch Beldum in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Beldum is a powerful Pokémon you can only get near the end of the game. You’ll need to complete Main Mission #35, “Reaching Rank A,” to unlock access to Lysandre Labs. Once inside, head to the far western corner of the map – look for the purple area – and you’ll find Beldum (and occasionally Metang) appearing there.

It’s a good idea to save your game before going into the room with Beldum. It’s very hard to catch, and you probably won’t succeed on your first attempt. Also, because Beldum is quite heavy, using a Heavy Ball will significantly improve your chances of catching it.

Beldum becomes Metang at level 20, gaining the moves Confusion and Metal Claw. Metang then evolves into Metagross at level 45. Metagross is a strong physical attacker with decent defenses and a little bit of special attack power. You can further evolve Metagross into Mega Metagross by having it hold a Metagrossite, which you can purchase from Quasartico Inc. for 360 Mega Shards after completing Mission 30.

Mega Metagross

Okay, so Metagross is already pretty powerful with a base stat total of 600, but when it Mega Evolves, things get crazy! Its stats jump all the way up to 700! Here’s how those stats are broken down…

  • HP: 80 (+0)
  • Atk: 135 (→ 145)
  • Def: 130 (→ 150)
  • Sp. Atk: 95 (→ 105)
  • Sp. Def: 90 (→ 110)
  • Speed: 70 (→ 110)

Mega Metagross gets a significant boost to most of its stats, particularly its Attack and Defense. Its HP remains relatively unchanged.

As a Metagross/Mega Metagross fan, I’ve found the best moveset really comes down to a few key attacks. You absolutely want Thunder Punch and Zen Headbutt, and then either Bullet Punch or Psycho Cut for some quick hits. Round it out with Iron Head, and you’re golden! A little trick I always use is Miracle Seeds – they turn these moves into ‘Plus Moves,’ making them even stronger, especially if they hit for super effective damage. It seriously boosts Metagross’s power!
