How to Evolve Bisharp in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

How to Evolve Bisharp in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

As a seasoned Trainer with decades of Pokémon battling under my belt, I must say that Kingambit, with its unique abilities and signature move, is indeed a formidable addition to any team. Its impressive Defense and Attack stats make it a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it’s not just about introducing new creatures; they also offer some fresh evolutions and forms for previously known Pokemon. For instance, Bisharp has a new evolution called Kingambit. Unlike many Pokemon that transform through leveling up alone, certain ones have unique conditions for their evolution. The process to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit in Scarlet/Violet is particularly distinctive compared to other cases.

Where to Find Bisharp

Paldea & Kitakami

In the expansive region of Paldea, Bisharp can be spotted in the North Province (Area Two), specifically within the woods close to Fury Falls and the Caph Squad Base. Here, these Bisharp are at level 52. On the other hand, if you opt for Kitakami, Bisharp reside in the Timeless Woods. Although it’s technically possible to explore the Timeless Woods soon after embarking on your Treasure Hunt, it’s usually advisable to hold off. The Pokémon in this area are generally level 55 before you complete the main quest “The Way Home”. However, upon seeing the end credits and entering the postgame, their levels will be adjusted to 70.

An alternative method to find Bisharp is by checking for them within Tera Raids. Keep in mind that they can only show up in 4-star Tera Raids, and these appear once you’ve obtained seven gym badges first.

Another way to get Bisharp is to evolve Pawniard, and unlike Bisharp, Pawniard can be found in lower-level areas. If you want to catch a wild Pawniard, you can search the following areas:

  • South Province (Area Five)
  • East Province (Area Three)
  • North Province (Area Two)

They can also be caught in Kitakami/Teal Mask DLC:

  • Oni Mountain
  • Wistful Fields
  • Fellhorn Gorge
  • Kitakami Wilds
  • Timeless Woods

In the regions of South Province (Area Five) and East Province (Area Three), the levels of the Pawniward will be approximately 22 and 28 respectively, prior to “The Way Home.” However, those found in Kitakami (excluding Timeless Woods) will have their levels set between 28 and 30 before this point. After finishing the game, their levels will adjust to 70, similar to all other Pokémon in Kitakami.

To evolve your Pawniard into Bisharp, you’ll need to level it up to 52. You can achieve this by letting it battle automatically or by giving it Experience Candy L. If you manage to catch Pawniard in Timeless Woods or North Province (Area Two), you might not have to level it as much. However, since Bisharp can also be found in these areas, catching Pawniard might not be necessary; instead, you could just get Bisharp directly to make things simpler.

How to Evolve Bisharp into Kingambit

How to Find Bisharp with Leader’s Crest

To make Bisharp transform into Kingambit, you need to defeat three wild Bisharps that are carrying a Leader’s Emblem. You can identify these wild Bisharps by engaging in battles with them if they are surrounded by Pawniards. You can usually find such encounters in Area Two of the North Province, near the Caph Squad Base. After your Bisharp has successfully defeated three Bisharps bearing a Leader’s Emblem, it will transform into Kingambit.

Your Bisharp does
not
need to be holding a Leader’s Crest to evolve.

Your Bisharp is a Dark/Steel type Pokémon, but luckily, you can give it a Fighting-type move, which could one-hit knock out its foes. Since Bisharp has a particular dual-typing, it’s four times weaker against Fighting-type attacks. Utilize this weakness to expedite the evolution process. Your Bisharp can learn any of these Fighting-type moves using a TM:

  • Low Kick (TM012)
  • Low Sweep (TM039)
  • Brick Break (TM058)
  • Reversal (TM134)
  • Focus Blast (TM158)

Considering that Bisharp boasts a higher Attack stat compared to Special Attack, it might be beneficial for you to opt for moves like Low Kick, Low Sweep, or Brick Break rather than Focus Blast. You may also utilize the Reversal move, but be aware that its damage output is determined by Bisharp’s remaining HP. The lower its HP, the more damage Reversal will cause.

If Bisharp isn’t managing to wear down the opposition, consider switching to another Pokémon. Bisharp’s role is primarily to deliver the finishing move against an opponent Bisharp.

Here’s another method to acquire Kingambit: You can trade for it or engage in battles with it during 5-star or 6-star Tera Raids. Five-star Tera Raids become accessible after “The Way Home,” while six-star raids demand additional effort. To access six-star raids, you must first win the Academy Ace Tournament in the postgame. After that victory, you’ll have to engage in some Tera Raids with Jacq. Once he informs you about black crystals appearing around Paldea, you can start participating in the 6-star Raids.

Is Kingambit Good?

Kingambit Stats, Ability, and More

How to Evolve Bisharp in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

There are pros and cons to Kingambit just as there are with any other Pokemon. One thing to note is that Kingambit is slower than its pre-evolved form (Bisharp). Since Speed can be an important factor in battle, this is something you want to consider before opening a slot for Kingambit.

Starting with Gen 9/Scarlet & Violet, Bisharp now has access to the Eviolite item which enhances its Defense and Special Defense by 50%. This means that a Bisharp using Eviolite might be a better choice for your team compared to Kingambit.

However, Kingambit has a unique Ability and a signature move. Here’s what you’ll want to know:

HP:100
Attack:135
Special Attack:60
Defense:120
Special Defense:85
Speed:50
Total:550
Super-effective against:Psychic, Ghost, Fairy, Rock, Ice
Weaknesses:Fighting (4x), Fire, Ground
Resistances:Grass, Rock, Flying, Ghost, Dark, Dragon, Steel, Normal
Immunities:Psychic, Poison
Defiant:Sharply raises the user’s Attack stat when any stat is lowered.
Supreme Overlord:Attack and Special Attack stats are slightly boosted (10%) for every Pokemon in the party that has already been defeated.
Pressure (Hidden):Doubles the PP usage of the opposing Pokemon.

Kingambit performs optimally with its Supreme Overlord Ability. To fully leverage its stat development, consider an Adamant (increases Attack while decreasing Special Attack) or Jolly (enhances Speed while reducing Special Attack) nature. Due to its ability, it’s advisable to deploy Kingambit at the end of battles.

Recommended Moves

  • Kingambit should have its Kowtow Cleave signature move. This is a Dark-type move with a power of 85. It also never misses, just like the Flying-type Aerial Ace.
  • Swords Dance can give it some more Attack power if necessary. Using this will raise Kingambit’s Attack stat by two stages.
  • If you’re worried about Fighting-types, then Kingambit can have some coverage with Aerial Ace or Zen Headbutt. Unlike Aerial Ace, Zen Headbutt is a Psychic-type move that sometimes causes the opponent to flinch. On the downside, it has an accuracy of 90%. While not bad, it still has more of a chance of missing whereas Aerial Ace will always hit its target in most circumstances.
  • The last move could be another Dark-type attack such as Night Slash. In general, you’ll want to avoid giving Kingambit special moves since its Special Attack stat is relatively poor.
