Okay, so I’m trying to figure out how to evolve my Haunter into a Gengar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A! These Ghost-types are classics – I mean, they’ve been around since the very beginning with the original Game Boy games, and everyone still loves them, so I really want to get it right.
I’ve always thought Gengar was a seriously solid Pokémon to have on my team – some people even like it *more* than Charizard, which is saying something! So even if you’ve already ‘caught ’em all’ and filled out your Pokédex, I’d definitely recommend not letting go of this powerful ghost type. It’s just too good to trade away!
Here is how to evolve Haunter in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
How to Get Gengar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the only way to get a Gengar is to trade for a Haunter and then evolve it.
Before I move on, I really need to find Gastly in its original form. I’ve been checking out Wild Zone 4, which is in the northern part of Lumiose City, and that’s where it seems to hang out. It used to only come out at night, but now it’s cool that you can find Gastly here any time of day!
Once you’ve caught a Gastly, level it up to 25 to evolve it into Haunter. Then, you’ll need to trade Haunter with a friend. It’s a good idea to have your friend trade a Pokémon that also evolves through trading, so you both get something new! After the trade, you’ll each have a Gengar and their evolved Pokémon.
It’s frustrating that you need help from a friend to get a popular Pokémon. While older games like Pokémon Legends: Arceus had items to evolve Haunter, and Scarlet and Violet offered a trade with an NPC, those options aren’t available in this new version.
Is Gengar Good in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Yes, Gengar can be a good addition to your team in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Being a Ghost-type Pokémon makes Gengar resistant to normal and fighting attacks, and it’s always been known for its powerful special attacks. Add in its speed, and you’ve got a seriously dangerous opponent. However, Gengar isn’t very durable, so it can be defeated quickly by strong attacks if it doesn’t attack first. Putting your opponent to sleep or poisoning them gives Gengar a big advantage.
Gengar is a Dark and Ghost type, so it is weak against Ghost, Dark, Ground, and Psychic attacks.
Okay, so if you’re hunting for Pokémon that evolve in weird and interesting ways, you *have* to check out how Inkay evolves – it’s seriously different! And if you’re feeling nostalgic, I also found a guide on getting Squirtle, one of the classics from Generation 1.
