Scyther is now an even more appealing Pokémon to add to your team, but you’ll need to know how to evolve it into Scizor. Finding the Scizorite, the item needed for evolution, can be difficult. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about getting Scyther and evolving it in Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Where To Catch Scyther in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Okay, so I’ve been trying to find Scyther in Pokemon Legends Z-A, and I finally figured it out! You need to progress through the main story a bit to unlock Wild Zone 13, and then you can only find Scyther there at night. Honestly, just following the main path through the zone usually leads right to one. Just a heads-up though – watch out for the Alpha Trevenant that hangs around there, it can be a tough fight!

Scyther is a tough Pokémon that puts up a good fight, so you’ll need to lower its health before trying to catch it with an Ultra Ball. If you want to evolve Scizor, you’ll normally need to trade with a friend, but there’s a quicker way to get it into your Pokedex if you prefer.

How to Evolve Scyther in Pokemon Legends Z-A

To evolve Scyther into Scizor, you’ll need a Metal Coat, which you can get later in the game. After finishing Main Mission 35 (reaching Rank A), complete either Side Mission 101 – Steadfast as Steel (found in the Bleu Sector 5) or Side Mission 114 – A Feather from Skarmory (in Vert Sector 7). Both of these side missions will reward you with a Metal Coat.

Once players obtain this item in Pokemon Legends Z-A, they can evolve Scyther by trading. However, finding a friend to trade with can be difficult, so trade codes offer a convenient solution. Here’s how to use them:

  1. Open the party menu by pressing (X)
  2. Equip Scyther with a Metal Coat (Held Item)
  3. Select Link Trade
  4. Enter code 0176-0176 for a Scyther trade (or trade with a trusted friend).
  5. Once the other Scyther arrives, its evolution icon will be lit up.
  6. Select Scyther in the menu and then ‘Evolve.’
  7. Scyther will evolve into Scizor.

Players can still swap Scyther back if they want – a common practice – and then evolve it into Scizor. Keep in mind that in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, all evolutions, including Trade Evolutions, now need to be started manually.

Mega Scizor

To evolve Scizor into Mega Scizor, you’ll need a Scizorite, which costs 50,000 Poke Dollars at the Stone Emporium. You can find the Emporium on Main Street in the Vernal Zone, right next to Wild Zone 12. Once you have the Scizorite, give it to your Scizor to hold, build up enough Mega Energy, and then press the (L) button to trigger Mega Evolution.
