How to Extract in Dungeonborne

How to Extract in Dungeonborne

As a seasoned veteran of the Dungeonborne world, I can tell you that the game’s extraction mechanic is one of its most intriguing features. The thrill of exploring the dungeon, discovering valuable loot, and then safely making my escape with an activated portal or a hidden escape room is what keeps me coming back for more.

In the game “Dungeonborne“, players delve into dungeons as first-person explorers, focusing on discovering precious treasures hidden within. The twist is that these dungeons are also arenas for Player versus Player and Player versus Environment (PvPvE) combat. The objective is not just to fight enemies but to locate and activate unpredictable escape portals scattered throughout the dungeon before time runs out. This portal activation process is referred to as “safe extraction”.

In the game “Dungeonborne,” the process of discovering and using escape portals, controlled by the extraction mechanic, can initially be perplexing. These portals pop up in the dungeon as your journey unfolds. You might stumble upon an escape portal during your quest, but you may not be clear on how they operate or how to find them reliably.

How Extraction Works In Dungeonborne

In the game “Dungeonborne,” your main goal is to delve into the dungeon in search of treasured items and discover an exit portal hidden within. As the game advances, these exit portals become accessible at various points in the dungeon.

The game alerts you about new portals through a message log on the right side of your screen. This message gives you details such as newly appeared portals, the total number of accessible portals, and players who recently used a portal to exit the dungeon. These portals don’t appear on the map, so you need to search for them actively whenever the log is updated.

You can identify escape portals by their distinct blue hue and approaching them brings up the activate prompt. Activating a portal takes about 10 seconds and pings your location to nearby players unless you have a Ritual Scroll in your possession. Once a portal has been activated, it can be used to safely escape the dungeon. Activated portals can be used by enemy players, so avoid straying too far from an activated portal and missing your escape chance.

Instead of just portals, explore the map for blue-marked icons signaling hidden escape rooms. These special chambers enable you to exit the dungeon without triggering a portal. Be mindful though, as each dungeon offers merely two such hideaways. Importantly, these escape rooms can only be used once – if another player has already utilized one, it’s off-limits for you and you must search for an alternate regular escape portal within the dungeon.

How To Successfully Extract In Dungeonborne

In Dungeonborne, the decision to extract (leave the game) depends mostly on your individual goals. If you aim to last the entire match, accumulate precious loot, and then depart, this is an option. Alternatively, if you’re up for a challenge and wish to confront the dungeon’s formidable bosses for even superior rewards, that path lies open as well.

If you plan on delving deep into the dungeon throughout the entire game, it would be wiser to utilize one of the standard portals located near the dungeon’s entrance. Many players tend to seek out the escape rooms towards the end of the match to ensure a safe exit. Consequently, attempting to escape during this time can often result in encountering opponents, which you should avoid if possible.

If you aim to leave the dungeon ahead of others, be cautious not to reveal your location to adversaries who might pursue you. In such cases, it’s essential to secure a Ritual Scroll to conceal your position while using a portal. These scrolls are signified on your map with light blue icons and are often protected by enemies. Much like in escape rooms, Ritual Scrolls are obtained in limited quantities but more plentiful than usual. Consequently, keeping an eye out for these scrolls can enhance the safety of your exit.
