How to Fast Travel in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

In the eagerly anticipated Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Skip Travel or Fast Travel returns, as it has been a key feature in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Just like in other video games, Skip Travel in Xenoblade Chronicles X will help you quickly move around Mira to accomplish quests and more. You’ll unlock the Skip Travel feature quite early in X, and it’s a gameplay mechanic that you’ll find yourself using frequently.

FN Sites vs. Landmarks

To quickly move around using your Nintendo Switch controller, just tap the ‘+’ button. This action will show a map of the region with significant spots like Landmarks, FrontierNet Sites (FN Sites), and quests marked (quests are shown by an exclamation point). If you see any FN Site or Landmark on your map, you can instantly teleport to that location just by hovering over it and pressing the A-button.

Instead of automatically earning Landmark travel points upon discovery, you’ll need to use a Data Probe to gather information from FN Sites (which will be indicated by golden light). A notable feature of Data Probes is their reusability; they can be taken off one FN Site and placed on another.

  1. To swap Data Probes, open your map (+).
  2. Then, tab over to FrontierNav and use A-button to swap Data Probes.

Different kinds of Data Probes exist, though some unique or precious ones can exclusively be obtained through missions and mystery chests. To inspect their capabilities, simply check out the drop-down menu labeled “Data Probe Details” in the FrontierNav tab.

You can’t trade Data Probes until after you finish Chapter 2, and remember that exchanging them comes at a financial cost.

104 FN Sites and 150 Landmarks are scattered across Mira, each region – Primordio, Noctilum, Oblivia, Syvalum, and Cauldros – hosting a portion of them. Unlike FN Sites, which can be identified on your map, Landmarks do not have any markers, so you’ll have to explore the areas to find them.

Can You Fast Travel within New Los Angeles?

Fast Travel: Indoors vs. Outside

As a fan, I find whizzing through the cityscape of New Los Angeles in Mira remarkably similar to fast-traveling elsewhere. However, what sets it apart is the thrill of taking a closer look at the iconic buildings – akin to squinting your eyes to get a better view. You can achieve this by advancing on the right analog stick, and voila! The map zooms in, revealing the landmarks you’ve uncovered within New Los Angeles.

In contrast to outdoor environments, there are no FN Sites located within New Los Angeles, which means you can relax knowing that you won’t need to recycle or reuse Data Probes.
