How to Find All Heian Masters in Nioh 3

As a Nioh 3 player, I’m always on the lookout for Masters! These are super tough enemies you can challenge to a duel, and if you win, you get some awesome rewards. Collecting and beating all of them is actually one of the main things you need to do to earn a trophy or achievement in the game, so it’s worth the effort!

Early in Nioh 3, some Masters aren’t immediately available. You’ll need specific Guardian Spirits, which are unlocked by playing through the main story and defeating its key bosses. Here’s a guide to finding all the Masters from the Heian period in the game.

How to Find All Heian Masters in Nioh 3

Kamo Village

  • Recommended Level: 57

To challenge this boss, you’ll first need to finish the ‘Follow the Soldier’s Shadow’ quest. Then, go to the Funaokayama Shrine. From there, head north, climb on top of the boxes, and take the path to your right. When you reach the temple gate, look to the right to find a Spirit Vein that will take you up to the building where you’ll find the first Master of Heian.

Nishiichi

  • Recommended Level: 66

Starting at the Driftwood Fortress Shrine in Nishiichi, head southwest, following the path along the sunken houses. You’ll find a Sudama near a glowing Spirit Vein. Cross over to the other side and speak with the Master at the hilltop. When the duel starts, use the wooden barricades for cover to protect yourself from the Master’s arrows.

These arrows are incredibly powerful and can kill you in two hits, so stick to cover and avoid running straight into danger.

Awawa no Tsuji

  • Recommended Level: 66

Starting from the Kamo Riverbank Shrine, walk straight ahead and then south until you locate a glowing Spirit Vein. Follow the vein to the other side, and you’ll find the Master waiting there.

Hachijo

  • Recommended Level: 73

To unlock this master, you’ll need to complete a quest that starts by speaking with the Onmyo Mage north of Rajomon: Suzaku Avenue Shrine. This quest involves traveling to a building in the northeastern part of the area to find a box. Inside the box, you’ll be able to interact with the Bloody Grave, which will trigger a fight against the Master.
