The Monster Hunter series is well-known for its unusual trinkets, and Monster Hunter Wilds continues this trend with gems like the Origin Wylk Gem. Locating these special items not only rewards you with a good amount of investigation points but also makes it easier to gather scarce items more quickly.
Where to get Origin Wylk Gem in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, only the Ruins of Wyveria produce Origin Wylk Gems. You can’t reach this location until late in the Low Rank story mission. Moreover, you need to regain access to the Ruins when you advance to High Rank.
The Wylk Gem is an unusual artifact that serves no purpose during a hunt. Instead, you can discover them by gathering at two specific locations within the Ruins. These locations are known as Whitegleam Gemstones. One is situated at the southern tip of Area 7 on the second floor of the zone, and the other is located at the southeastern corner of Area 9, both areas reside on the second floor as well.
As an avid gem collector, I must share that you can only snag one Origin Wylk Gem each time you try, and the spot for gathering cools down for 15 minutes after use. This suggests a maximum of eight Gems per hour due to the cooldown, but there’s an interesting loophole that might be unintentional.
Once you’ve gathered the items, quickly move to any part of the game using fast travel, then promptly return to the Ruins of Wyveria. This action typically resets the timer, allowing you to collect Origin Wylk Gems once more.
What to do with Origin Wylk Gems in Monster Hunter Wilds
From my perspective as an avid enthusiast, these Origin Wylk Gems aren’t your typical consumables or crafting materials. Instead, they have a limited number of applications that, when utilized effectively, can prove to be exceptionally valuable. At present, there are essentially two primary uses for Origin Wylk Gems:
- Item Trading. Item trading is a great way to get unique and hard-to-find materials without the hassle of hunting for them. Each major region hug, like Azuz, Kunafa, and so on, has at least one trader that lets you exchange a rotating list of items. You’ll spend Origin Wylk Gems primarily with Ren in the village of Sild in the Ruins of Wyveria. He won’t always accept them for trade, so stock up during off hours to prepare you for whatever he has available next.
- Sell for Zenny. If you choose, you can simply sell Origin Wylk Gems for 500 Zenny apiece. It’s a paltry sum considering their relative scarcity and the value you can get out of the Gems by trading them. If you’re low on cash, they’re one of many special items you could sell to pad your bank account.
In your Monster Hunter Wilds journey, you are now aware of how to obtain and utilize Origin Wylk Gems. While it’s not necessary to accumulate a huge amount, having around a dozen on hand for occasional trades can help save some extra time.
