How to Find the Best Creatures For Holo-Arena in No Man’s Sky

The recent Xeno Arena update to No Man’s Sky lets you battle creatures in holographic combat, and each creature has its own special abilities and strengths. Players are eager to discover how to find the best creatures for these arena fights. Luckily, a new feature on the Analysis Visor helps you assess a creature’s fighting capabilities.

How To Find The Best Holo-Arena Creatures In No Man’s Sky

Okay, so you’re looking to expand your creature roster? Smart move. My advice? Don’t waste time revisiting planets you’ve already explored. Head to worlds with environments – or biomes, as the game calls them – that are new to your team. Once you’re there, whip out your Analysis Visor – that’s ‘F’ on your keyboard – and scan those land-based critters like you normally would. That’s how you’ll collect Units and, most importantly, discover a brand new species to add to your crew!

Players can change modes by pressing the ‘3’ key until they reach Creature Survey Mode, which is marked with a paw icon. This mode displays a creature’s potential stats on the right side of the screen. When choosing creatures, focus on those with high potential in Combat Effectiveness, Agility, and Health.

The four tiers in No Man’s Sky are:

  • S
  • A
  • B
  • C

You can also see the creature’s affinity, such as toxic or fire.

How To Tame Creatures In No Man’s Sky

After finding a creature you want on your Holo-Arena team, you’ll need to tame it. This starts by making Creature Pellets using Carbon.

To tame a creature, approach it and hold down the ‘E’ key while feeding it pellets. Once tamed, pressing ‘E’ again will bring up a menu of options, including the ability to ‘Adopt as Companion’.

How To Upgrade Holo-Arena Creatures In No Man’s Sky

It’s great to find creatures with strong potential, but they need genetic changes to truly reach it. They can earn progress towards these changes by battling and winning matches in the Holo-Arena. These earned points can then be used in the Companion Register to boost one of three stats. Once a creature’s stats are fully upgraded, you can also improve its unique abilities.

To help a particular companion get stronger, have them fight as one of the first two creatures in battle. Also, if you’re winning easily, don’t always use your third creature – let them rest up for tougher fights.

Winning battles can also reward you with Retrovirial Pellets. These pellets can be given to your companion to give them one upgrade point. To offer a pellet to a creature, summon it using the ‘X’ key.

How To Unlock More Companion Slots In No Man’s Sky

When you first start playing, you’ll have space for only two companions. You can buy more companion slots using Nanites, the game’s rarer currency. The first additional slot costs 500 Nanites, and each one after that gets more expensive – increasing to 1000, and so on.

It’s essential to unlock and fill your first team slot with three creatures, as all Holo-Arena teams consist of three. You’ll want to continue building your collection of creatures to cover all the different types, which will help you defeat your opponents. For instance, fire-type creatures are especially effective against frost-type creatures.

I can open my Companion Register by pressing the X key and then scrolling over to the little paw print icon – that’s where I summon my companions!
