As a seasoned Elden Ring gamer with countless hours under my belt, I have come across various allies and questlines throughout this magnificent game. Among them, Dryleaf Dane, the enigmatic Martial Artist from the Followers of Miquella, has left an indelible mark on me.
In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, players encounter several new companions from the Miquella Faith. These devotees have ventured into the Shadowland to meet the Kind Empyrean and uncover his intentions. As the narrative unfolds, players can engage with each Follower individually as they chase their own objectives and reveal the enigma behind Miquella’s pilgrimage to the Shadowland.
In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, there’s a follower of Miquella named Dryleaf Dane who isn’t very talkative. You can initially encounter this Martial Artist at Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus. He continues to be an ally to you throughout the game and remains with you until you reach the final Legacy Dungeon of the DLC. Please note that this guide may contain spoilers; I’ll label them wherever possible.
Step 1: Reaching Scadu Altus
To begin your journey in Dryleaf Dane’s Quesline, you must first gain entry to Scadu Altus. You can accomplish this by either defeating Rellana or choosing the simpler southeastern path and utilizing a Spirit Spring.
Step 2: Highroad Cross and Moorth Ruins
After reaching Scadu Altus, your next destination is the Grace Highroad Cross Site, where you’ll discover a vital item – the Monk’s Message. At this location, you’ll find the message lying on the ground. Upon picking it up, you’ll also gain access to the “May the Best Win” gesture. We’ll require this gesture to interact with Dryleaf Dane and progress further in the riddle. The note reads, “If you desire the path of the warrior, search to the east. When we meet, I will issue a challenge without spoken words.” Follow these instructions by locating Dryleaf Dane at Miquella’s Cross within the Moorth Ruins, then engage him in combat using the “May the Best Win” gesture.
Step 3: Dueling Dryleaf Dane
To defeat Dryleaf Dane effectively, keep in mind his swift melee attacks and the use of his Ring of Light Incantations. His melee strikes can inflict significant damage and momentarily stun you if you attempt to cast a spell or drink a potion at an incorrect time. The incantations provide him with ranged capabilities; once they’ve been launched, they will return to him, potentially striking you again if you don’t remain vigilant. Be cautious of his “Palm Blast” Weapon Art as well. When Dryleaf Dane prepares to use it during his Dryleaf Arts, this charged burst grants him superior poise and has the potential to inflict massive damage within a confined area in front of him. It’s advisable to maintain a safe distance when you notice him readying for this attack.
Keep these things in mind and he won’t be too hard to beat, he’s fast but lacks armor.
Step 4: Dryleaf Arts, Dane’s Armor, and Dane’s Aid
After defeating Dane in a grueling battle, he’ll reward me with a formidable Weapon and a distinctive hat. Alongside this, I’ll find an inspiring message from him, urging me to continue honing my skills. Subsequently, his summon sign will materialize outside Romina’s sanctuary at the Ancient Ruins of Rauh’s boss room. By invoking Dane’s martial expertise during this encounter, I can bolster my own abilities and emerge victorious.
You can also find the rest of Dane’s Armor now by traveling south from the Ruins of Unte. These ruins can be accessed via a hidden path in the Shadow Keep, in the area accessible after defeating the Golden Hippo and just before the Specimen Warehouse. Once you reach the Ruins of Unte, you can travel south and follow the river (and past some waterfalls), eventually reaching the Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace. From here you’ll need to use the coffins sticking out of the nearby cliff to reach the top of a third Waterfall. Travel North from here to reach the bottom of another Waterfall, likely the one Dryleaf Dane enjoys training under, and snag the rest of from beneath it.
Step 5: One Last Test (Spoilers for the Final Legacy Dungeon)
In your journey, you reach the last milestone once you’ve vanquished Romina, the Saint of the Bud, and destroyed the Sealing Tree. Consequently, you gain access to Enir-Ilim, the ultimate Legacy Dungeon of the DLC. Overcoming the challenges within Enir-Ilim is no small feat. Upon reaching its summit, prepare for a battle against Needle Knight Leda and her remaining loyalists to Miquella, including Dryleaf Dane, who now brandishes Dane’s Footwork and employs its unique abilities.
After defeating Needle Knight Leda and her companions, you have the opportunity to search the slain Dryleaf Dane at the room’s entrance for his Footwork ability. However, if you aim to obtain the Dryleaf Whirlwind Ash of War, you must venture to the Ancient Ruins of Rauh instead.
