Where Winds Meet features a huge, connected open world that you can travel around using horses or fast travel. But the most exciting way to get around is by flying! The game’s Wuxia setting allows players to unlock flying abilities through various skills. This guide will show you how to take to the skies in Where Winds Meet.
All Lightness Skills for Flying in Where Winds Meet
Before learning to fly in Where Winds Meet, it’s helpful to understand the Lightness Skills. These are four unique abilities that all relate to flying, each with its own special animation.
- Meteor Flight
- Thousand-Mile Flight
- Fan Glider
- Wind Rider

All four of these Lightness Skills allow the player to reach a great height in the sky and fly, covering a great distance. However, these movement skills do not come pre-equipped, meaning the player must unlock one to use it. The Meteor Flight skill is rewarded for completing the “Afterglow” side quest, and is probably the first flying skill that players will unlock. The Thousand-Mile Flight is a fourth log-in reward as part of the Warrior’s Journey path. Lastly, the Fan Glider and Wind Rider both unlock at a higher Qinghe Exploration rank.
Unlock Meteor Flight Skill by Completing Afterglow Quest

To learn how to fly in the game, you need to finish the Afterglow side quest. You can find it under the Jianghu Legacy section – it’s the fifth quest in that list. Start the quest, and it will direct you to a fisherman. Talk to him, and you’ll get a preview of the Meteor Flight skill. After landing, speak to the fisherman again. He’ll then ask you to complete a simple challenge: jump across the floating wine jars to reach his boat.

Once you reach the boat, talk to the fisherman. Then, collect the secret Tome – which teaches the Meteor Flight skill – and the Long Spear from the ship. This will finish the quest and unlock the ability to fly. Keep in mind that you can initially only fly back to Qinghe from the boat, and flying will be limited after that. Fortunately, there’s a way to overcome this restriction.
Acquire the Afterglow Pendant

If you’re getting a black screen when trying to fly with Meteor Flight or any other flying skill, it’s because flying is currently disabled in Qinghe. To unlock flying, you’ll need the Afterglow Pendant. This pendant is a reward for reaching Exploration Rank 4 in Qinghe, which takes some time and effort. Once you’ve reached Rank 4, simply equip the Afterglow Pendant in your pendant slot, and you’ll be able to use any Lightness Skill to fly.
Just so you know, you’ll also need to reach Exploration Rank 4 in each region to be able to fly there. If you don’t, you’ll run into the same black screen issue.
