How to Fully Upgrade Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei

The Wolf Blade is one of the earliest weapons Atsu obtains during her journey in Ghost of Yotei. This katana was made by her father to safeguard their family, and you can improve it multiple times as you play. Like many games, upgrading the weapon needs different materials, meaning you’ll have to explore various parts of the game world. This guide will show you how to fully upgrade the Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei, allowing you to use its full power and earn the ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’ trophy.

All Wolf Blade Upgrade Material Requirements in Ghost of Yotei

As a huge fan of the game, I’m really excited about upgrading the Wolf Blade! You can upgrade it a total of four times, and each upgrade needs Metals. But here’s the thing – after the very first upgrade, you’ll also need to hunt around for some extra materials. They’re not just lying around everywhere, you’ll have to explore specific areas to find them. Here’s a breakdown of what you need for each upgrade:

  • Upgrade 1: 20 Metals
  • Upgrade 2: 20 Metals + 20 Oni Raider Mask Pieces
  • Upgrade 3: 20 Metals + 20 Shinobi Steel
  • Upgrade 4: 60 Metals + 15 Gun Parts + 15 Rare Metals

Just so you know, Upgrades two and three can be completed in any order – feel free to choose whichever feels best. The order in which you gather the necessary materials will depend on how you approach the Yotei Six. I suggest getting these upgrades done as quickly as possible. When you have everything needed to upgrade the Wolf Blade, you’ll receive a notification letting you know it’s time.

Where to Upgrade the Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei

After gathering the necessary materials, head back to your family home in the Yotei Grasslands and use your father’s forge. You’ll find your home on the northern shore of Lake Shikotsu, just east of the Shikotsu Woods. I’ve added a screenshot above showing the exact location on the map.

Now, go to the forge – it’s near the house – and click on it to open the ‘Upgrade’ menu.

If riding a horse isn’t your preference, simply choose your house on the map and press X to instantly travel there. You can also set your father’s forge as your destination.

Choose the Wolf Blade from the options, and then pick the upgrade you’d like. You can skip the forging mini-game if you prefer, though it’s really enjoyable!

Where to Find All Wolf Blade Upgrade Materials in Ghost of Yotei

As I mentioned earlier, some of the items needed to upgrade your gear are only available in specific areas of the map. I’ve detailed how to find metals, oni raider mask pieces, shinobi steel, gun parts, and rare metals below.

  • Metals: Can be obtained by interacting with ore deposits found around the world, looted from defeated enemies, and in Yotei Six Camps. These are fairly common, but seem to spawn on mountains or by rock faces. They can also be purchased from merchants.
  • Oni Raider Mask Pieces: As the name suggests, these are dropped by enemies once you’ve reached ‘The Oni’ main tale.
  • Shinobi Steel: Dropped by enemies in the Teshio Ridge region, which you’ll explore as part of ‘The Kitsune’ main tale. It can also be found in chests at Yotei Six Camps and given as a reward for completing some side quests.
  • Gun Parts: Dropped by enemies in Oshima Coast, which you’ll explore as part of ‘The Saito Brothers’ main tale. It can also be found in chests at Yotei Six Camps.
  • Rare Metals: Found in gold ore deposits and in chests at Yotei Six Camps.

The most important thing to remember is that you’ll usually find the materials needed to upgrade the Wolf Blade as you play. If you complete side quests, participate in activities, and explore the world, you shouldn’t have to go far out of your way to collect everything you need.

Once you buy the fourth upgrade for the Wolf Blade, you’ll earn the ‘Like Father, Like Daughter‘ trophy, which brings you closer to getting the platinum trophy.
