The Cowplant is a really special plant in The Sims 4. Once it’s fully grown, it acts like a living creature that needs to be fed each day to stay healthy. It’s different from other plants because if you don’t feed it every twelve hours, it will become grumpy and might even try to eat your Sims!
In The Sims 4, players need to find and plant a Cowplant Berry before they can grow a Cowplant. It takes a few days for the berry to mature, and once it does, the Cowplant needs regular care. There are five different ways to get Cowplant Berries, but some are simpler than others.
How To Get A Cowplant Berry In The Sims 4
Players can get Cowplant Berries by Digging, exploring Space, Fishing, Ordering Seeds, or Grafting. Each of these activities has a chance of giving you the berry, depending on how and where you do it, but some methods are more likely to succeed than others.
Grafting
If you want a constant supply of Cowplant Berries, you can grow them using the Gardening Skill, but it takes some effort. You’ll first need to get your Sim to Level 5 in Gardening, which unlocks the ability to cut and graft plants.
To get Dragonfruit, players need to grow both a Strawberry bush and a Snapdragon flower. You can find the seeds for these plants in the garden behind the house located in the bottom right corner of the Willow Creek world. Once fully grown, cut both plants and graft them together – this will allow them to produce Dragonfruit that your Sims can harvest.
Once a Dragonfruit plant has fully matured, players can combine it with a Snapdragon flower. This process will make the plant grow Cowplant Berries instead of its usual fruit.
Space Exploration
Finding a Cowplant Berry while exploring space is mostly luck-based. Plus, the Astronaut career takes a lot of time, so it might not be the best way to try and get one.
Okay, so if you’ve already got a Rocket in your game, you definitely should try to get a Cowplant Berry. You can do this by sending your Sim on a space exploration mission. Basically, you click the Rocket and choose ‘Explore Space’, and your Sim will head out on a random adventure. There’s a mission called ‘Trials of the Green Man’ that gives you a Cowplant Berry as a reward, but it doesn’t show up every time, so you might have to try sending your Sim up a few times before you get it. It’s worth it though, because you can find other cool stuff out there too!
Digging
Okay, so you can dig up Cowplant Berries when you’re treasure hunting, but it’s totally luck-based. Honestly, unless you’re already going for the Curator aspiration, I wouldn’t bother! There’s a much easier way to get them, and I’d recommend trying that instead.
Fishing
Finding Cowplant Berries in The Sims 4 is easiest at Desert Bloom Park in Oasis Springs. Look for the small pond near the mountains and fish there. It might take a while to get one, so make sure your Sim is well-rested and has their needs met before you go.
If you’re willing to wait, you’ll eventually get a Cowplant Berry, which you can plant to grow a Cowplant. While it might take some time, this is the most reliable way to get a lot of them if you want a Cowplant quickly.
Ordering Seeds
If you own the Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack, you can buy Cowplant Berries once your Sim reaches Level 10 in the Gardening aspiration. Just select the “Purchase Seeds” option in the garden where you found Strawberries and Snapdragons, and then buy the Rare Seeds pack that appears.
Getting a Cowplant Berry this way is simpler in theory, but it takes a long time because your Sim needs to finish the Gardening aspiration first. Plus, since Sims can already grow Cowplants at Gardening Skill level 5, this method isn’t really necessary.
What Does The Cow Plant Do in The Sims 4?
Once a Cowplant is fully grown, it needs to be fed every 12 in-game hours. If you don’t feed it, it will start trying to eat your Sims! It does this by luring them with a cake-like tongue, and if a Sim isn’t paying attention, they might try to eat the cake – which causes the Cowplant to eat them.
Sometimes, a Cowplant will spit a Sim back out, but there’s also a chance the Sim could pass away. If that happens, the Grim Reaper will show up and players can try to bargain for their Sim’s life before they’re gone for good.
While a Cowplant can seem intimidating, it can be a fun pet if you take good care of it. Just feed it every 12 hours to keep it happy and enjoy its cute interactions! Neglect it for a full 24 hours, though, and it will sadly die, leaving behind only bones. So, remember to feed your Cowplant at least once a day.
After a Cowplant eats a Sim, you can milk it. If the Sim died, milking the Cowplant gives you an Essence of Life potion that slightly extends the drinker’s lifespan. If the Cowplant regurgitated the Sim, the potion will give the drinker the same mood the Sim had before being eaten.
How to Get a Ghost Cowplant in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 Life & Death expansion introduces a ghostly version of the Cowplant. This undead plant works just like a regular Cowplant, but you don’t have to feed it! This removes the worry of accidentally letting it starve. However, it’s still dangerous – it can still lure Sims with cake and, ultimately, consume them. Once a Ghost Cowplant eliminates a Sim, you can ‘milk’ it for a special item called Essence of Life. Unlike the original plant, you won’t find any undead Cowplant berries, so you’ll need to get a fully grown Ghost Cowplant to add it to your Sims’ family.
Rewards Store
Okay, so I just found out you can snag an Undead Cowplant for 3,000 Satisfaction Points in the Rewards Store! That’s a lot, honestly. You’ll have to fulfill a bunch of Sims’ Wants or hit a good number of aspiration goals to get enough. If you’re impatient like me, there’s a guide out there on how to boost your Satisfaction Points a little faster in The Sims 4.
Cleanse Ghostly Infestation
Just outside the center of Crow’s Crossing, you’ll find a pair of haunted houses. When ghosts appear inside, players can use a special action to remove them. If you successfully clear out the ghosts, you’ll be rewarded with an Undead Cowplant.
It’s even simpler to do this if you have a ghost in your household. As a ghost Sim, you can haunt houses, letting other members of your family cleanse them and earn prizes.
After you get an Undead Cowplant, it will automatically go into your household’s inventory. You can then place it in your home by going into Build Mode, choosing the inventory icon, and clicking where you want to put it.
