In the opening scenes of “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker“, Link is an ordinary boy from the village who’s on the verge of wearing the Hero’s green attire for the first time. However, unlike other games in the series, you don’t start with a sword here. Instead, your initial quest involves obtaining a sword to explore the forest towering above Outset Island where a fallen girl needs investigation.
Later in the game, you’ll find yourself without your sword again upon reaching the Desolate Citadel. Follow this guide to discover where to acquire a sword during the introduction of The Wind Waker, and how to reclaim your sword after its loss within the Forsaken Fortress.
How To Get The Hero’s Sword On Outset Island
At the onset of the game, while Link is initially testing his newly acquired telescope, you’ll witness a girl plummet from the grasp of a colossal bird into the woodland above Outset Island. However, to navigate around the trees and reach the forest, you’ll first need to obtain a sword.
To obtain a sword in “The Wind Waker,” players should venture towards Orca’s residence, which is located beneath a porch. There, an elderly man with a notable large head will invite you for a conversation. Once inside Orca’s house, engage the village swordsman in dialogue to acquire sword-fighting knowledge.
Once you finish this short tutorial on melee combat from The Wind Waker, players will acquire the Hero’s Sword permanently. Make your way back to the eastern part of town, ascend the hill, and chop down the trees as you go. With your newly obtained sword, venture into the woods above Outset Island.
How To Retrieve Your Sword In The Forsaken Fortress
Once you’ve embarked on the pirate vessel, Link is escorted to the Deserted Citadel. Regrettably, when the pirates hurl Link overboard towards the fortress walls, he inadvertently misplaces his sword.
As a devoted admirer, I’d be delighted to guide you on a thrilling journey to recover your sword! Venture bravely through the desolate Forsaken Fortress, armed with any weapons at hand. Employing stealth whenever possible will help you reach the lofty vantage point where Link’s sword was lost in mid-air. Good luck, and may your courage and cunning serve you well on this quest!
Stepping into the radiantly lit square, I cautiously navigate my path towards the stairs on my right side, ready for what awaits me.
As an enthusiast, I might say: I can grab a barrel and lift it above my head as a stealth tactic, but remember, even the slightest movement could give me away. If an adversary or searchlight catches sight of the barrel shifting, I’m still in danger.
To reach your destination, go up the ramp on your right side, then scale the ladder towards the searchlight. Smash the pot with branches, grab a stick, and overcome the Bokoblin guarding that searchlight. Once defeated, the searchlight will remain shining straight upwards and off the critical path you’ll need to traverse later.
This version aims to provide a more descriptive and engaging way of conveying the original instructions while maintaining its clarity.
Head downstairs and proceed into the structure. Leap over the chasm using a rope as your stepping stone, then keep going to retrieve the Dungeon Map. Leave through the doorway on the left, and vanquish the Bokoblin to put out another light source.
Keep moving forward along the top tier inside the Deserted Citadel until you find another location where you’ll need to jump. Enter the following chamber, ascend the rung-filled wall on an outer balcony, vanquish a Bokoblin to extinguish the final beacon.
Next, proceed through the Deserted Fortress until you reach a room with two wandering Moblins. Grab a barrel and cautiously approach the stairs and exit door located on the right side of the room. Ensure you don’t get too near a Moblin as you move or cross its path; otherwise, you’ll be transported to the Jail in the dungeon and will need to return.
After surmounting the Moblins, proceed climbing the steps, beware of another Moblin guarded by a barrel yet again, then ascend the stairs further to locate where Link lost his sword! Retrieve the Hero’s Sword and vanquish the adversaries to progress through the Forsaken Fortress.
