Balancing family life and building a lasting legacy can be challenging in The Sims 4. That’s why the Royalty and Legacy expansion pack added helpful services like the dynasty tutor, along with an upgrade technician, to make things a little easier for players.
This guide explains how to get a tutor in The Sims 4. It covers everything players need to know about helping their Sims – whether it’s with their children’s schoolwork, building skills, or improving their own abilities.
How to Unlock Tutors in The Sims 4
In The Sims 4, tutors are a service Sims can hire to help at home. However, not all Sims can access this service. Only the heads of established dynasties can unlock tutors, allowing Sims within those families to benefit from their help.
In The Sims 4, you can unlock tutors by building up your family’s Prestige. You’ll need to earn at least 50 dynasty Perk Points and then buy the Tutor Perk in the Social Groups section of the game.
How to Get a Tutor in The Sims 4

After unlocking the Tutor Perk, players can arrange for a tutor to come to their Sim’s home. To do this, open your Sim’s phone, choose ‘Hire a Service,’ and then select either a single tutoring session or a recurring schedule.
Even if Sims from different families live together, only one tutoring service is available for the entire household. Luckily, that tutor will help all children, no matter which family they’re from.
How Tutors Work in The Sims 4
Tutors in The Sims 4 act like personal coaches, helping Sims of all ages improve their skills. They’re especially useful for children and teenagers, providing assistance with homework and school projects. Tutors will automatically offer help when a Sim is doing homework, but for other skills or projects, players may need to ask them directly. Sometimes, the tutor will proactively offer help, while other times, you’ll need to initiate the interaction.
The tutor will arrive at 3:35 PM and usually stay until 9:45 PM, though they might leave sooner if you ask. Hiring a tutor costs 100 Simoleons, plus an extra 30 Simoleons for every hour they spend at your home.
