In the game ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, the assortment of allies you encounter is quite diverse and fascinating. Some players might finish the game without ever calling upon an ally, possibly unaware that this feature exists. The characters Yasuke and Naoe boast a variety of skills, making it easy for the allies to blend into the background. This can be disappointing because each recruitable ally in ‘AC Shadows‘ has a distinct combat ability that becomes incredibly useful when large groups of enemies approach. In this guide, we will demonstrate how to enlist every ally within ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, and explain the unique skills they offer.
How to Recruit Every Ally in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
To ensure you can enlist every ally within the game AC Shadows, it’s recommended that you avoid playing in Canon Mode. Choosing Canon Mode limits your options during specific dialogue sequences, thereby preventing you from recruiting at least one ally.
Six allies, including Tomiko and Junjiro, can be enlisted by Naoe and Yasuke for assistance in battles. Together, they form the secretive League of the Concealed Cutlasses.
- Yaya
- Gennojo
- Kitsuhime
- Oni-Yuri
- Ibuki
- Yagoro
How to Recruit Yaya in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Meet Your First Ally:
In the game “AC Shadows,” Yaya is the initial companion character you can bring into your service. She is first encountered by Naoe in their quest to locate Wada Koretake, a prominent figure within the Shinbakufu with one ear.

- Introduction: “The Fatherless Monk”
- Recruited After: “The Stray Dogs” – Once you’ve completed the search for Wada Koretake, Yaya will visit the Hideout, but will not yet be a formal ally. After completing “Heads Will Roll,” Yaya can be found on The League wheel in the Objectives menu. You’ll see her “The Stray Dogs” quest is available.
- Important Choices: There are three important choices that you must make when speaking to Yaya. The first one comes during “Heads Will Roll.” You must select “Killing Them Isn’t Justice” when the monk is about to kill a prisoner. The second and third choices are in “The Stray Dogs.” Early in the quest, pick “We Forgive Him” when Yaya confronts the thieving priest. Finally, select “You need to forgive each other” when Yaya is yelling at Tetsuo. After selecting this, you’ll have the option to ask Yaya to work together at the end of the mission.
How to Recruit Gennojo in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Meet the Fool:

As a dedicated fan, my first encounter with Gennojo unfolds during the mission aimed at subduing “The Fool”, a notable Shinbakufu member nestled within Yamashiro. By progressing through the main storyline and successfully eliminating this target, I’ll then have the opportunity to complete his ally missions.
- Introduction: “The Missing Missive”
- Recruited By: Naoe
- Recruited After: “The Godless Harvest” – The final mission after a string of quests with Gennojo, including “Swords & Sake,” and “Honor Among Thieves.”
- Important Choices: During the “Honor Among Thieves” quest, make sure you select “I’m keeping it then” during your conversation with Gonnojo. During “The Godless Harvest,” Gennojo becomes despondent at the end of the mission. He will contemplate blowing up the rice – along with himself. You need to make sure to select “Soothe Gennojo” when the choices come up. If you choose wrong, Gennojo will be lost. Losing Gennojo is actually canon, but it means you will not be able to recruit him. Make sure to console Gennojo if you wish to summon him into combat.
How to Recruit Kitsuhime in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Two of a Kind:
Naoe and Kitsuhime share many similarities, as they are both shinobi who spent their formative years in the shadows of their fathers. In combat, while Naoe eschews the use of a Teppo due to its perceived uncivilized nature, they display strikingly similar fighting styles. During your journey, it is best to encounter Kitsuhime during the quest to vanquish The Naginata. Begin by progressing through the primary quest, and once it has been concluded, follow Shotei’s (Katsuhime’s father) assignments. Upon completion of these tasks, you will then be presented with Kitsuhime’s missions.
Kitsuhime can be romanced by Naoe.

- Introduction: “Showdown in Sakamoto”
- Recruited After: “The Diary of Lady Rokakku”
- Recruited By: Naoe
- Important Choices: Make sure to defeat Isono Kazumasa, and all enemies, quickly. It is possible for Kitsuhime to die in this mission, locking her out as an ally.
How to Recruit Oni-Yuri in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

You Can Never Tell:
You can find Oni-Yuri by completing the side quest called “Sweet Lies” in the Tsuruga area, specifically at Sotomo Gate within Wakasa. Once you’ve finished this quest, she becomes available for recruitment.
- Introduction: “Sweet Lies”
- Recruited After: “Sweet Revenge” – Simply follow Oni-Yuri’s quest through to the end.
- Recruited By: Naoe or Yasuke
- Important Choices: Make sure to take Oni-Yuri’s side in the arguments and do not let the towns’ people inflict any type of punishment. Take the time to learn Oni-Yuri’s story. This will almost always take the form of Naoe’s replies, so it’s safe to simply pick her every time.
How to Recruit Ibuki in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Return to Iga:
In the game, you might overlook Ibuki as he’s not featured in any of the main missions. To locate Ibuki, you need to retrace your steps and head back to Iga, which is situated in the southern Hijiyama province. If building a relationship with Yasuke’s other companion, Ibuki, is something you’re interested in, then be sure to do so!

- Introduction: “Ambush Interrupted”
- Recruited After:”Homecoming”
- Recruited by: Yasuke, if romance desired.
- Important Choices: During “Ambush Interrupted,” make sure to pick “I Have Changed.” During “Homecoming,” make sure to pick “Fight with us, Kyobei.”
How to Recruit Yagoro in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Home-made Assassin:

After overpowering each Shinbakufu member and finishing the “Mysteries of the Sword” journey alongside Naoe, look for a covert League member to show up in your Tasks. This individual will hint at a shinobi who’s been slaying Samurai within Engyoji, Harima. You can locate Yagoro near Maniden Hall. If you dispatch a spy to Engyoji, they’ll expose Yagoro’s mission, “Shadow in the Night“.
- Introduction: “A Blade in the Dark”
- Recruited After: “A Blade in the Dark”
- Important Choices: You’ll simply need to be supportive of Yagoro. After all it took to get to this point, they seemingly decided to keep the process of recruiting Yagoro relatively simple.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you have the ability to enhance your allies. To do this, construct and improve your Dojo at the Hideout. Once built, utilize the Ally Management board within the Dojo, or in every Kakurage, to train each ally individually.
