How to Get All Half Life and Portal Content in Death Stranding

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this guide to collecting the cubes in Death Stranding is as thorough as they come! It’s clear that the writer has played through the game multiple times and has a deep understanding of its intricacies.

Since Hideo Kojima is a highly respected figure in the gaming world, it makes sense that other creative talents would want to collaborate with him on Death Stranding. This is evident from the involvement of Geoff Keighley, Conan O’Brien, Edgar Wright, and Junji Ito, among others. It appears that Kojima utilized his extensive network when assigning roles for the game, and he had a special plan for Valve’s team.

Initially missing from the PS4 debut, the PC version of Death Stranding introduced two unique collaborations boasting exclusive content. These collaborations were with Valve, famous for creating the Half-Life and Portal games, as well as CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Numerous elements from Valve’s games are integrated into Death Stranding, with some of the items offering particularly advantageous perks.

In Death Stranding, you can access all the Valve content exclusively in the PC edition and the Director’s Cut release. Unfortunately, this additional content isn’t included in the original PlayStation 4 version of the game.

Where to Find Gordon’s Glasses in Death Stranding

In the “Valve Content” group, you’ll find Gordon’s spectacles from the “Half-Life” series. Notably, these glasses can be worn by Sam, making them quite valuable to discover.

Look for the š¯˛´ Symbol in Sam’s Emails

In Episode 2, Benjamin H will send an email to Sam containing information about the first Half-Life artifact. It’s Samuel’s task to retrieve the package and transport it to Capital Knot City to claim the prize, which is Gordon’s Glasses in this scenario. Notably, Benjamin mentions that the package can be found north-east of the Distribution Center situated west of Capital Knot City.

Just keep moving along the river’s flow until you get to the location where Sam is. The package, resembling the iconic Companion Cube from Portal, will be hard to overlook because it’ll be clearly visible on the riverbank, right at the border between BT territory and neutral ground.

Where to Find The Valve Valve in Death Stranding

It’s clear that isn’t a mistake – the term you see, “Valve valve“, refers to an actual valve that Sam can attach to the back of his head in the game. Once he gets it, he can activate it by moving up on the d-pad. So, could it be possible that Sam now has the ability to use a harmonica hidden behind his head?

In his emails, Sam will find the Half-Life lambda symbol again, signaling that another item is now available for collection and delivery.

On this occasion, William L. will pass on the necessary details to Sam, as these hint towards a spot close to Peter Englert’s refuge. You might know Englert as the adored pizza lover who has an uncanny ability to order at inconvenient times. Moreover, he seems to be perpetually absent. For now, let’s set aside that peculiarity. The cube is supposed to be placed right in front of his shelter, nestled neatly between the two silos. Hand it over at Lake Knot City for your reward.

How to Get the Gravity Gloves in Death Stranding

Thomas S will provide a detailed explanation about the third cube in an upcoming email, asking Sam to find his misplaced parcel. This information will be shared with Sam soon after his journey to the Weather Station.

To find the cube, journey towards the MULE camp, which is situated northwest from the Distribution Center, and lies south of Lake Knot City. This camp is nestled at the foot of the game’s largest mountain, so it should be quite noticeable and difficult to confuse with others.

As I prepare for battle, it’s crucial to stock up on weapons since the mysterious cube is smack dab in the middle of our camp. Once I manage to transport that cube to the Distribution Center, which lies south of Lake Knot City, I’ll be rewarded with a game-changing item – the Gravity Gloves. These gloves are an absolute lifesaver in this game!

How to Get the Half-Life Truck in Death Stranding

Thomas Southerland is also responsible for starting the search for the fourth cube, which should arrive at the same time as Order 38. Keep an eye out for his email then.

Make your way towards the rundown factory close to the Artisan’s refuge. Keep in mind that this area is a Hot-BT Zone, so plan to either stealthily navigate or engage in combat when necessary.

Search for a malfunctioning tractor, you’ll find the companion cube placed right beside it. Carry the cube to the Distribution Center, which is south of Lake Knot City, to obtain the blueprints needed to build a truck.

How to Get the Headcrab Cap in Death Stranding

In the course of events, the Prepper-Paleontologist, who joins Mountain Knot City, will send Sam the fifth email. This email event aligns with when Sam is engaged on a mission with the Paleontologist.

Sam is going to be guided towards the ruins he encountered earlier during the whiteout, which are located slightly north-west of the Geologist’s shelter. If Sam zooms in on his map, he should be able to see the building foundation where the cube resides.

Take care! The region here is swarming with BTs ā€“ and not just any BTs, but the powerful Super-BTs that can only be defeated by severing their umbilical cord. On another topic, if Sam requires a substantial amount of chiral crystals, this location would be ideal!

Move the cube into the corner of the ruins of the building, then transport it to the Paleontologist for your reward – the Headcrab Hat.

How to Get the Strider Hologram in Death Stranding

Look for two š¯˛´ emails

This final cube is a bit of a trip. Once the game is completed, Sam will receive an email from an Unknown sender, which thanks him for collecting the first five cubes and says the experiments can now continue. Right, whatever that means! Benjamin Hancock will then email Sam, asking about the strange message he received. He will send Sam out to get one final cube from the ruined shopping mall north of Middle Knot City.

At this stage of play, it’s probable that players will come to understand that Middle Knot City was never explored within the game but instead, was annihilated by the Homo-Demens. Interestingly, the remnants of the city are indeed present. To access them, proceed beyond the crater containing the Ruined Shelter and search for a bridge spanning the tar expanse. Typically, Sam will need to complete the construction on this bridge. Be sure to gather 800 units of metal and at least one ladder to traverse a smaller section of the tar pit.

Approaching the hill using Odradek from the nearby bridge could uncover a large cube. Proceed with caution as this location is teeming with robotic creatures known as BTs. Keep an eye out for a massive BT hovering over the cube itself. Be aware that smaller red BTs are also present in the area, so make sure you’re well-prepared before proceeding.

After Sam obtains the cube, he needs to transport it to the Incinerator positioned west of Lake Knot City. You can find it on the route leading to Mountain Knot City. Burn the last cube to wrap up the mission. Subsequently, Sam will get two additional emails concerning this sequence of tasks, but the strider hologram serves as the ultimate reward.
