Enjoying sake is an excellent way to restore Spirit in Ghost of Yotei. It lets players refill this helpful resource without needing to rest at a tent or battle foes. Also, certain quests and secret goals need Atsu to be consumed before you can finish them.
Okay, so the game *does* explain how to drink sake when you first get it, but honestly, I almost missed it! The little explanation pops up as a tooltip and it’s easy to overlook. And if you forget and need to figure it out again, you have to go digging around in the menus to find the tutorial entry. Thankfully, once you *do* find it, the process is actually pretty straightforward. Let me tell you how it works…

How to Drink Sake in Ghost of Yotei

Press and hold the D-Pad to have Atsu drink sake in Ghost of Yotei. If he has any sake in his inventory, he’ll drink it right away. This restores 1 or 2 Spirit and causes Atsu to become intoxicated.
When intoxicated, vision becomes blurry and indistinct, and the world seems to wobble as if it’s tilting. Having another drink right away will make this feeling stronger (and also replenish your Spirit). If you drink a third, you’ll start to vomit, and the screen will become so blurred that all you’ll see is gray.

Normally, Atsu can carry 2 sake jars simultaneously. If you attempt to pick up more, you’ll receive an error message. You can view your remaining sake supply within the Inventory menu, located under the Resources section.
Sake is a one-time consumable item. Once you drink it, you need to find another one to drink again.
Once you finish a cup of sake, you’ll have an empty sake jar left over – it will either be held by Atsu or dropped on the ground. You can’t refill this jar, and its only purpose is to distract enemies so you can launch a surprise attack, or to briefly stun them.
To unlock one of the trophies in Ghost of Yotei, called Wolf Bait, you need to lure a wolf and defeat it using an empty sake bottle.
Snake Skin Armor Sake Buffs

The Snake Skin Armor provides useful benefits related to sake which are especially helpful when you first start playing. This armor is only for players who bought the Ghost of Yotei Digital Deluxe Edition. Here’s what it does when equipped:
- Empty sake jars have a chance of actually being full when picked up.
- Thrown sake jars explode on impact and create a poisonous cloud.
How to Get Sake in Ghost of Yotei
You can find sake in campsites, houses, or outposts throughout Ghost of Yotei. Essentially, Atsu has a chance of finding sake wherever people are living. When exploring enemy camps, you’ll frequently see empty sake jars. Remember, these jars won’t contain sake unless you’re wearing the Snake Skin Armor, as we discussed earlier.
Alternatively, Atsu has the option to buy sake from merchants found in Ainu villages and large cities. Each jar of sake costs 10 copper coins, and these merchants usually have three jars available. Don’t worry if they’re out-their supply will be replenished, so you can return later for more.
