How to Get and Use Farcaster in Monster Hunter Wilds

In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s an overwhelming abundance of items, craftables, monster components, and random ingredients that leaves one speechless. Navigating through all these elements can be quite challenging for newcomers who aren’t already acquainted with this game series, as they might struggle to understand what each item does and when it should best be utilized.

The Farcaster serves as an on-demand teleportation device, ideal for swift relocation during battle, with just a quick button press. Unlike other items scattered across the overworld, you won’t stumble upon this one casually. Instead, players must proactively craft it to acquire one, here’s how:

How to Make a Farcaster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Players in MH Wilds can create a Farcaster by merging a Smokenut with an Exciteshroom from the Traps/Offense section of the Crafting List. This is a handmade item, so players will need to intentionally gather materials and follow the crafting instructions to acquire one. The Crafting List can be accessed through the Main Menu or by entering a tent.

  • Start Menu: Go to Items & Equipment -> Crafting List -> Traps/Offense.
  • Tent: Go to Item Menu -> Crafting List -> Traps/Offense.

Using the Start Menu for crafting may seem simpler, however, you might not always have all the necessary items on hand as your Inventory Pouch has a finite storage capacity.

Smokenut Location

Smokenut can be found in the Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, and Ruins of Wyveria.

  • Scarlet Forest Area 6, 7, and 8.
  • Oilwell Basin Area 2 and 7
  • Ruins of Wyveria Area 13

Exciteshroom Location

Exciteshroom can be found in Scarlet Forest, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria.

  • Scarlet Forest Area 6, 8, and 10
  • Iceshard Cliffs Area 6 and 11
  • Ruins of Wyveria Area 6, 8, and 10

How to Use Farcasters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Hunters can make Farcasters convenient by placing one in their Inventory Pouch, then allocating it to either a Personal Menu or the Quick Access Bar for swift use. Pressing the Farcaster activates will instantly call forth a Drake to transport you to the closest campground for safety, whether you’re engaged in combat or not.

You can only carry one Farcaster at a time.

Are Farcasters Worth Using in Monster Hunter Wilds

In contrast to earlier Monster Hunter games, MH Wilds permits players to swiftly travel during battles using the standard fast-travel system, unlike relying on a Farcaster for this purpose. This change has significantly reduced the necessity of the Farcaster compared to previous games, allowing players to embark on a hunt without it. Nevertheless, having a Farcaster doesn’t make it obsolete. Instead, normal fast traveling necessitates first opening the map, then selecting either the World Map or the Fast Travel list within that map, and finally confirming the destination. Although these menus are user-friendly, instant travel is not an option.

Because you can’t temporarily halt the game during combat, it leaves room for the monster to ambush you with a powerful strike when you’re busy navigating through menus. However, a Farcaster addresses this issue by making fast-travel accessible via a single button press using either the Custom Radial Menu or the Item Bar feature.
