How to Get and Use Fear and Goodwill Essence in the Sims 4

As a seasoned Sim player with decades of virtual life under my belt, I must say that The Sims 4: Life and Death expansion pack has truly breathed new life into this beloved franchise. Ghostly goings-on have always been intriguing, but now, with the addition of Ghost Mastery and the ability to earn Fear and Goodwill Essences, it’s a whole new world for our spectral Sims!

The expansion pack for The Sims 4 titled Life and Death focuses on the soul’s intriguing voyage, encompassing experiences in life and beyond, providing players with a richer gameplay that includes living, dying, and haunting as a ghost. Although ghosts have been present since the initial release of the game, this expansion pack enhances their experience by bestowing them with special abilities and interactions similar to other supernatural Sims such as vampires and sorcerers. Even after passing on, ghosts can retain some of their occult powers, but the Ghost Mastery gained by any Sim upon death is distinct – it can be used for purposes ranging from good to evil or anything in between.

Introducing the Ghost Mastery tree expands unique prospects for ghost characters compared to other esoteric fields, making it an intriguing area of study. While it’s essential for Sims to build their Ghost Mastery to access further advantages, they’ll also have the chance to intermittently gather Fear and Goodwill Essence along the way. This essence can serve as passive earnings for Sims specializing in ghostly activities.

How to Obtain Fear and Goodwill Essences?

In the Simology interface, you’ll find the Ghost Mastery skill tree, which enables players to monitor their acquired powers as they engage in actions from the Ghost Mastery menu, affecting themselves, other Sims, or items. This menu is broken down into three categories: Evil Powers, Neutral Powers, and Good Powers. Unlike Neutral Powers, neither Fear Essence nor Goodwill Essence are produced. However, Evil Powers create Fear Essence, while Good Powers generate Goodwill Essence. Generally, higher-level ghost powers yield more essence than lower-level ones. So, players should concentrate on the Ghost Mastery menu and decide to use either Chaos or Scare abilities to accumulate Fear Essence, whereas Comfort or Helpful abilities will amass Goodwill Essence.

In the ghost Sim’s stock, both the Fear and Goodwill Essences will show up together, grouped under one category, and they can be accumulated up to 99 instances each.

If Sims acquire the “Fear the Night” skill within the Neutral portion of the Ghost Mastery tree, they’ll be granted access to stronger actions that produce extra Fear Essence during the night. This talent can prove very beneficial for players who wish to activate the “Otherworldly Curse” ability in the Evil section, as it aids them in optimizing their essence accumulation and furthering their pursuit of darker powers.

How to Use Fear and Goodwill Essences?

The main function of these essences is to earn some additional Simoleons, as they can be traded to the Enigmatic Vendor at Ravenwood. Each essence fetches 5 Simoleons, so it’s not the most profitable venture if the aim is solely to make money—activities like painting offer much higher returns in a shorter span, particularly when the skill is advanced. However, as players engage in different ghost mastery tasks to enhance their ghost’s skills, they will gradually amass Fear and Goodwill Essences. This makes it a pleasant additional income source, enabling players to earn while appreciating the distinct gameplay features introduced with the Life and Death expansion.
