As a seasoned Elden Ring adventurer with countless hours spent traversing the Lands Between, I must say that Sir Ansbach has left an indelible mark on my gaming journey. The old knight, once commanding Mohg’s Pureblood Knights, now offers one of the most intriguing questlines in this expansive game.
Sir Ansbach is a prominent figure in the story of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Much like other devotees of Miquella, he was ensorcelled by the empyrean and ventured into the Shaded Lands. Now aged and weakened, Sir Ansbach previously led Mohg’s Noble Knights.
Sir Ansbach wields potent tools, such as the [Longbow] and another unnamed item. Unlike the Obsidian Lamina, which is rewarded for overcoming the final boss in the Elden Ring DLC expansion, the Longbow can be acquired during your journey through Shadow Keep’s legacy dungeon. However, it may be elusive; you’ll need to converse with specific characters and engage in a few invasion events.
How to Get Ansbach’s Longbow
In the game, Ansbach’s Longbow can be earned by either aiding Needle Knight Leda to defeat Sir Ansbach or helping Sir Ansbach to defeat Leda in Shadow Keep. It is advisable to side with Sir Ansbach during this fight to obtain his longbow, as he will subsequently aid you in the battle against Needle Knight Leda and her allies in Enir-Ilim, as well as the DLC’s final boss.
1. To help Ansbach battle against Needle Knight Leda, make sure to advance both Leda’s and Ansbach’s storylines first. Here is a guide on how to obtain Ansbach’s Longbow:
- Talk to Needle Knight Leda near Highroad Cross site of grace.
- Go near Shadow Keep to break Miquella’s charm.
- Talk to Needle Knight Leda.
- Suggest Hornsent.
- Talk to Hornsent and then Leda to hear her decision about Hornsent.
- Invade and defeat Hornsent at Shadow Keep.
- Talk to Sir Ansbach near Main Gate Cross site of grace.
- Talk to Needle Knight Leda again until she starts suspecting Sir Ansbach.
- Go to Specimen Storehouse and find the Secret Rite Scroll.
- Give the scroll to Sir Ansbach and finish all dialogues.
- Return to him to find summon signs.
- Assist Sir Ansbach or Needle Knight Leda to get Ansbach’s Longbow.
Following your victory over Rellana and departing from Castle Ensis, you’ll find yourself in Scadu Altas and arrive at the Highroad Cross site of respite. By the site of respite, Needle Knight Leda and Hornsent will be ready to greet you. Proceed north from Highroad Cross towards Shadow Keep to shatter Miquella’s enchantment affecting his followers.
After that, head back to Needle Knight Leda’s location at Highroad Cross, a place of tranquility. Discuss with her about her growing unease towards her allies and seek her thoughts. Offer the suggestion of Hornsent and allow her time to contemplate it. Later, take a break at the nearby site of grace and converse with Leda once more to learn about her decision regarding Hornsent.
As a seasoned Destiny 2 adventurer with countless hours under my belt, I reckon it’s high time to delve into Shadow Keep once again. If you haven’t already vanquished the Golden Hippopotamus boss lurking there, that is your first task at hand. Overcoming this foe will grant you access to the Shadow Keep Main Plaza site of grace. From there, head westward and march on through the castle’s grand entrance.
1. After vanquishing Hornsent, speak with Needle Knight Leda once more, and she will inform you that Sir Ansbach is her next objective. You can locate Sir Ansbach in a room situated north of the Storehouse on the First Floor site of grace. If he’s not there, seek him out at his original location next to the Main Gate Cross site of grace within Gravesite Plain.
Investigate the Specimen Archive to locate the Hidden Script of the Secret Rite. Deliver this script to Sir Ansbach to uncover Miquella’s strategies. Once you’ve exhausted all conversations with him, take a break at the site of grace and come back to discover two summon symbols in Sir Ansbach’s chamber: one golden for helping Sir Ansbach or one red for helping Needle Knight Leda.
1. By picking an option and winning the battle, you’ll receive Ansbach’s Longbow as your reward. But, if you wish to obtain the Obsidian Lamina scythe and the Furious Blade of Ansbach spell later on, it would be wise to aid Sir Ansbach in defeating Needle Knight Leda instead.
Is Ansbach’s Longbow a Good Weapon?
In Elden Ring, bows aren’t typically top-tier weapons, but Shadow of the Erdtree makes an effort to rectify this by incorporating powerful bows such as Ansbach’s Longbow and Repeating Crossbow. Out of all the bows, Ansbach’s Longbow has one of the highest stat requirements, needing 43 Dexterity and 9 Strength. Due to its high stat demands, Ansbach’s Longbow is useful primarily for characters built around Dexterity.
The Longbow from Ansbach doesn’t stand out just because of its stat requirements; rather, it’s the weapon’s special ability, Fan Shot, that makes it a powerhouse. Fan Shot releases eight arrows towards the target for a cost of 12 Focus Points (FP). With the use of status-building arrows, you can effortlessly activate effects such as Bleed and Frost.
If you’ve been yearning to experiment with longbows but find the current ones lacking in strength, then Ansbach’s Longbow might just be what you need. It can be enhanced using charms such as [Talismans 1], [Talismans 2], and [Talismans 3]. However, keep in mind that Ansbach’s Longbow tends to deplete your arrow supply rather swiftly. To ensure continuous shooting, make sure to carry a variety of arrows so you can swap them out as needed.
