In the game Hytale, Cobalt is a key mid-level ore used for crafting better gear and upgrading workbenches. Players who want to advance through the game’s crafting system will need to gather a significant amount of it.
Cobalt isn’t too hard to find in Hytale, but you’ll probably have to venture quite a distance from your base to collect a lot of it. Here’s where to look for it.
Hytale Cobalt Location
Cobalt is often found in snowy areas on the map. You’ll discover individual Cobalt deposits in mountain ranges and tundras, and larger veins of it underground, frequently alongside Copper and Iron.
Based on our experience, it’s generally safer to mine cobalt on mountains rather than underground. There’s typically a lot of cobalt visible on the surface, so you avoid the dangers of cave exploration. However, mountains in snowy areas are inhabited by Yetis, and battling those creatures can be very risky.
Okay, so if I’m heading down into a mine, I always build a little basecamp first. Seriously, just a bedroll somewhere safe, a campfire to cook, and a chest to stash loot. You gotta be careful in snow biome mines, though! There’s ice everywhere on the floors, and it’s super slippery. One wrong step and you’re falling to your doom. Oh, and don’t forget Repair Kits! You’ll need them if you’re planning on exploring for a while.
With an Arcanist’s Workbench at your base, you can craft Teleporters to quickly travel between your home and locations around the map.
Cobalt Uses
Cobalt is primarily used to create powerful gear like weapons, armor, and tools. You can also use it to improve your crafting stations, such as the Workbench and Blacksmith’s Anvil. To get usable Cobalt, you’ll need to smelt raw Cobalt Ore in a Furnace until it transforms into ingots.
Crafting Cobalt gear also needs Shadoweave Scraps, which are similar to Linen Scraps in Hytale. You get these scraps by defeating Outlanders – human-like enemies that live in snowy areas. You can locate Outlander strongholds on your map, but be warned: they’re tougher and more aggressive than Trorks or Skeletons. Larger camps often have many Outlanders, so approach with caution and avoid getting overwhelmed.
