In Hytale, players use Fire Essence to fuel the Flame Crystal Staff and Ice Essence for the Ice Crystal Staff. If you want to use magic in Hytale, you’ll need to learn how to collect these elemental essences to power your magical weapons.
This guide explains everything you need to know about getting Essence of Fire and Ice in Hytale, including the easiest methods for collecting it.
How to Get Essence of Ice in Hytale
In Hytale, you can get Essence of Ice by defeating Yetis, Frost Skeletons, and Frost Snails in the Whisperfrost Frontiers, which is Zone 3.
| Creature | Location | Description | Screenshot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yeti | Whisperfrost Frontiers (Mountainside Caves) | Every Yeti cave is lit by a small campfire near the entrance, making them easy to spot if you have the high ground. Yetis are solitary enemies, meaning you will only find one Yeti for each cave you find. In addition to Essence of Life, Yetis also drop Heavy Hide. | |
| Frost Skeleton | Whisperfrost Frontiers | Frost Skeletons can be found patrolling the icy landscape of the Whisperfrost Frontiers or defending their strongholds in the icy tundra.
|
|
| Frost Snail | Whisperfrost Frontiers (The Everfrost) | Frost Snails move slowly, on top of the large, frozen glaciers. They emit a faint, blue glow from their bodies. However, this glow is very dim and can often be mistaken for the glow from Azurecap Mushrooms, Blue Glowing Mushrooms, or even Blue Crystal Shards. |
If you notice brown buildings or tiles on the map in Zone 3, instead of the usual black, you’ve found an Outlander base. Outlanders are a unique enemy type that don’t drop Essence of Ice when defeated – you’ll only get Shadoweave Scraps and Outlander gear instead.
How to Get Essence of Fire in Hytale
In Hytale, you can get Essence of Fire by defeating enemies like Burnt Skeletons, Incandescent Skeletons, Firesteel Golems, Magma Slugs, Wraiths, and Emberwulfs.
| Creature | Location | Description | Screenshot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wraith | Devastated Lands (Surface) | Wraiths are robe-wearing floating enemies wielding a large green scythe. | |
| Burnt Skeleton | Devastated Lands (Surface) | Burnt Skeletons are brown-armored skeletons that roam in twos or threes in the Devastated Lands. | |
| Incandescent Skeleton | Devastated Lands (Surface) Underground Magma Caves (Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3) | Incandescent Skeletons have dark black skin, glowing blue eyes, and neon red hair. In addition to Essence of Fire, they drop Cindercloth Scraps. | |
| Firesteel Golem | Devastated Lands (Surface) Underground Magma Caves (Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3) | Firesteel Golems are large, high-health, armored creatures that are solitary in nature. Despite their fearsome appearance, the damage they deal is not very high, but their high HP makes taking them down a difficult task regardless. | |
| Magma Snail | Devastated Lands (Surface) | Magma Snails are small, weak snails with a fiery shell that pusles with fire. | |
| Magma Slug | Devastated Lands (Surface) | Magma Slugs are large, bright red slugs with neon blue tails and eyes. They deal very low damage per hit and can easily be taken down in a few hits. | |
| Emberwulf | Devastated Lands (Surface) | Emberwulfs are fiery, wolf-like creatures that deal a lot of fire damage with their bite. |
