While Fennekin isn’t a starter Pokémon in the new game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can still add this adorable Fire-type fox to your team! Here’s everything you need to know about getting one.
So, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is doing a lot of the same things as Legends: Arceus, like giving us a new set of starter Pokémon. But the good news is, you can *still* find and catch the original Kalos starters – Fennekin and the others – which is awesome!
Okay, so there are a few things you need to know to actually get Fennekin on my team in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. I’ve got all the info right here, so I can walk you through the requirements.
How to Get Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You can receive Fennekin as a gift Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A by finishing a specific side quest, and it’s available relatively early in the game.
In Side Mission 8, “Get Well, Fennekin,” you’ll search Lumiose City for a Revitalizing Twig to help heal your Fennekin. Once you deliver the twig, Fennekin will join your team. It’s worth noting that, like other Pokémon received as gifts in the game, this Fennekin is Shiny Locked, meaning you can’t find it in its shiny form.
You can start the Side Mission once you reach Rank X in Z-A Royale. To begin, talk to Branche in the Magenta District. Look for a small park behind the building to the left of Prism Tower – you’ll know you’re in the right place when you see a Fennekin curled up on the ground.
Once you’ve talked to the Herbalist, go to Wild Zone 5 and find the search area. You’ll need to go through the sewers to get there. Look in all the spots marked on your map for the Revitalizing Twig, but be careful – an Alpha Whirlipede is lurking nearby!
Once you finish a certain mission, you’ll add Fennekin to your team or storage. As you progress, you’ll have opportunities to catch more Fennekin, and even find a rare, shiny version!
Where to Catch Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You won’t be able to catch Fennekin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A until you’ve progressed far enough to unlock the Wild Zone 18. Interestingly, this is actually *before* you’ll find the first Kanto starter Pokémon in the wild.
You can find Wild Zone 18 after achieving Rank B in Z-A Royale – it appears on rooftops. This Pokémon is very timid, similar to Pokémon like Abra and Espurr, and will run away if it sees you. The best way to catch it is to approach slowly and initiate a battle.
So, I found out you *can* Shiny hunt Fennekin, which is awesome! But it’s a bit tough because it doesn’t hang out with other Pokémon – you have to find it solo. It’s still totally worth trying though, especially if you can get the Shiny Charm. That thing seriously boosts your chances of finding a shiny!
