In *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, the Fractured Mask is a strong defensive item that can save Hornet from certain death. Like many other items in the game, it’s hidden and players will need to actively search for it to obtain it.
You can find the Fractured Mask relatively early in *Silksong*. It’s located in one of the first areas you’ll explore. Here’s how to get it.
How to Get the Fractured Mask in Silksong
Fractured Mask Location
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, you can buy The Fractured Mask from Mottled Skarr for 260 Rosaries. Mottled Skarr is a hidden shopkeeper located in the room right above the trapped bench.
After finishing the Flexile Pines quest, you can use the updraft shown on the Hunter’s March map to get to the top of a tall tower. Once you’re up there, look for an entrance to a room on the left – it might appear empty at first.
Stay to the left and jump to your left to find the hidden path to Mottled Skarr. Be careful not to trigger any traps, and you’ll find the character you’re looking for on the far left side of the room.
He sells the following items:
- (140 Rosaries)
- (260 Rosaries)
- Shard Bundle (50 Rosaries)
Mottled Skarr will die shortly after you start Act 2. When you go back to where he was, you’ll find his body and his weapon, the Curveclaw, but not the Fractured Mask. It’s currently unknown whether this means you won’t be able to get the Fractured Mask for the rest of the game, or if it will become available later on in a different way.
How Does the Fractured Mask Work in Silksong?

The Fractured Mask is a blue Tool that has the following description:
Shields against critical damage but shatters on impact.
If shattered, the mask will be repaired while resting at a bench.
The Fractured Mask shields Hornet from a single, powerful hit. This powerful hit can happen in one of two ways.
- Hits that deal two hearts/masks worth of damage to Hornet.
- Hits that would destroy Hornet’s last heart/mask.
If Hornet takes a hit that would normally kill her, the Fractured Mask will absorb all the damage once before shattering. If she takes two hearts of damage, the mask will block one heart of damage, and the other heart will go through. After being used once, the Fractured Mask breaks and can only be repaired by resting at a bench.
When you put it on, a cracked mask icon will show up in the first spot on your health bar, letting you know it’s working.
