In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, players can obtain a free Eevee quite early in the game. This allows them to evolve it into one of the three Eeveelutions available in those games and add it to their team before challenging the fourth Gym Leader.
This guide will show you exactly where to find this special Eevee, how to catch it, and how to evolve it into Jolteon, Flareon, or Vaporeon with the help of evolution stones. Read on for all the details!

How to Get Eevee in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Eevee Location in FRLG
In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, you can get a free Eevee by visiting the top floor of Celadon Mansion, which is right next to the Pokemon Center in Celadon City.
Just to the right of the Pokémon Center in Celadon City, there’s a small path that leads to a back entrance of Celadon Mansion (you can see it in the screenshot).
Go inside and climb the stairs to the top floor. You’ll find a room on the roof. Inside that room, take the Poke Ball from the stool next to the martial arts trainer, and you’ll receive a free Eevee.

How to Evolve Eevee in FRLG
Eevee can evolve into Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.
- Flareon: Eevee evolves into Flareon using a Fire Stone.
- Jolteon: Eevee evolves into Jolteon using a Thunder Stone.
- Vaporeon: Eevee evolves into Vaporeon using a Water Stone.
Okay, so I finally figured out where to get those Evolution Stones! You can grab Fire, Thunder, and Water Stones at the Celadon Department Store. Head up to the fourth floor, and they’re each 2,100 Poke Dollars. Not cheap, but totally worth it if you want to evolve your Pokemon!
You can also find free evolution stones in a few locations: two Fire Stones on Mt. Ember (where Moltres is), two Thunder Stones at the Power Plant (where Zapdos is), and two Water Stones in the Seafoam Islands (where Articuno is).
Can You Evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen?
Unfortunately, you can’t evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. These evolutions normally require high friendship levels, but also depend on the time of day – nighttime for Umbreon and daytime for Espeon. Because FireRed and LeafGreen don’t have a day/night cycle or a clock, you can’t meet those requirements.
Players can bring Umbreon and Espeon into FireRed and LeafGreen from other Pokémon games, but you can’t evolve Eevee into them within those games naturally.
