Froakie is back in Pokémon Legends: Z-A! You can add it to your team, but it might take some effort to unlock.

So, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is switching up the starter Pokémon – we’re getting a brand new trio instead of the ones from X and Y. But don’t worry, you can *still* get those original Kalos starters! It’s gonna take some serious playtime and effort to unlock them, though. Prepare to grind a bit if you want the OG team!

How to Get Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Similar to the other starter Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you first get Froakie by completing a side quest. However, you can obtain it relatively early in the game’s story.

Side Mission 8, “A Challenge From Froakie,” lets you earn Froakie as a Pokémon by completing a series of parkour challenges in Lumiose City. You’ll need to beat specific times on three different courses, so practice rolling and balancing – those skills are key to success!

Okay, so I just unlocked this new Side Mission! It popped up after I finished Main Mission 5 and got through the first three Side Missions for Emma in Legends: Z-A. Now I need to find Surv – he’s in Juane Sector 8, pretty close to the Pokémon Center just north of his location. Time to go chat with him and see what this mission is all about!

Where to Catch Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

You can catch Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A once you progress far enough in the story to unlock Wild Zone 16.

After you achieve Rank C in Z-A Royale, you’ll gain access to Wild Zone 6, where you can find Froakie. You’re more likely to encounter it during nighttime or rainy weather.

Like Fennekin, Froakie is a timid Pokémon and will quickly hide if it sees you. To increase your chances of catching it, approach slowly and throw a Poké Ball from behind. If you miss, Froakie will vanish, and you’ll have to try again, so take your time and be patient.

Unlike the Froakie you receive as a gift, wild Froakie can appear in its rare, alternate Shiny color. All gifted Pokémon in Legends: Z-A cannot be found in their Shiny form.
