As a seasoned adventurer who has traversed through countless lands and battled fearsome foes in my quests, I can attest to the challenges that the Gerudo Desert presents in “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom“. The pesky Lanmolas lurking beneath the sandstorms are a nuisance, but with the right strategy and equipment, they can be defeated.
In the game ‘Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’, venturing into the Gerudo Desert prior to Jabul Waters may lead you to encounter sandstorm-veiled patches of desert. These areas are generated by minibosses known as Lanmolas, a type of centipede monster that lurks within the sand to catch its victims off guard. Defeating two of these creatures initiates the “Wild Sandstorms” side quest. Although they aren’t as intimidating as the game’s rift bosses, dealing with them can be annoying if you’re not aware of how to overcome them effectively.
Wild Sandstorms Walkthrough
Lanmola Location in Echoes of Wisdom
To open “Wild Sandstorms,” finish the story quest titled “A Rift in the Gerudo Desert” and conquer the two Lanmolas roaming in the Gerudo Desert. After defeating both the red and green Lanmolas, teleport to Gerudo Town. Proceed through the door on the left side near the palace, and engage in conversation with the Gerudo soldier who has a quest marker above her head. You’ll be informed about another Lanmola you must defeat as well.
If the side quest symbol is missing from your map, it indicates that you haven’t yet defeated both the Red and Green Lanmolas.
You’ll know if you’re close to a Lanmola’s nest because it creates a sandstorm that covers the mini-map in the bottom-right corner. Lanmolas are recognized by a small, pulsating sand mound. As you get closer, the area around them becomes quicksand and they will attack you.
- The red Lanmola can be found northeast of Gerudo Town.
- The green Lanmola is to the northwest of the rightmost Waypoint stone in the Gerudo Desert.
- The purple Lanmola, which only appears when you defeated the red and green Lanmolas, is near the area where you found the green Lanmola (northwest of the rightmost Waypoint).
How to Defeat Lanmola in Echoes of Wisdom
Recommended Echoes & Accessories
Given that the Lanmola transforms its vicinity into quicksand, it’s advisable to purchase the Gerudo Sandals. These are available for 400 Rupees at the store in Gerudo Town. The sandals can save Zelda from getting stuck in quicksand, however, they won’t have the same effect on your summoned Echo. As an alternative, consider using flying Echoes, such as Crows or Peahats. If you decide to take on this side quest at a later stage of the game, you might also find Wizzrobe useful. If your Echoes have reached Level 3, like the Level 3 Darknut, then you can utilize them for attacks, but remember to re-summon them once they sink.
The Lanmola has two methods of attacking:
- Charging across the quicksand.
- Throwing boulders from a sandpit.
To hurt the Lanmola, you need to make it fall on its back. To achieve this, utilize Tri’s Bind ability to seize its tail, then yank it out of the ground. This will expose it for a brief timeframe, allowing you to attack it in Swordfighter Mode or with an Echo. Keep repeating this approach, dodge the boulders it throws at you, and ensure Zelda doesn’t sink into the sand.
In most cases, Lanmolas are often seen alongside Sand Piranhas and Arurodas. These creatures pose as nuisances that can harm both you and your Echoes, and they have the ability to disrupt Tri’s Bind when they strike Zelda. If you’re having trouble extracting a Lanmola, it would be wise to eliminate them first.
Overcoming both the red and green opponents known as Lanmolas will earn you Rupees and Monster Stones. Defeating the final, purple Lanmola grants you Rupees and a Heart Piece. Once all three Lanmolas have been defeated, it’s time to head back to Gerudo Town and share your victory news.
Wild Sandstorm Reward
How to Use the Gold Sash
In one of the Gerudo Warriors, exhausted from her training, you’ll encounter a weary warrior. Speak to her to discuss the recent absence of sandstorms. Subsequently, Facette will appear and bestow Zelda with the Gold Sash Accessory as a reward. This accessory equips Zelda, making her immune to strong gusts from Wind Cannons or Gustmasters. While it’s not as universally beneficial as the First Mastery scroll, in areas with high winds, it will prove useful. If you choose to ignore the Accessory, focus on defeating all the Lanmolas for a heart piece instead.
