How to Get Ice Breaker in Destiny 2

As a seasoned Destiny player with countless hours spent mastering every nook and cranny of the original game, I must say that the return of Ice Breaker in Destiny 2 has brought a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement. However, the grind to get this powerful weapon is as real as ever.

In Destiny 1, Ice Breaker was one of the strongest weapons; similarly, Bungie has refurbished and reintroduced it in Destiny 2. Consequently, it operates slightly differently compared to its original version, but it remains a potent loot you can acquire in the latest Revenant storyline.

Fortunately, you won’t encounter any tricky riddles to acquire it, however, be prepared as it requires effort. Some strategies for simplifying the process are discussed further, but obtaining the ‘Ice Breaker’ won’t come effortlessly.

To obtain the Ice Breaker weapon in Destiny 2, you must successfully finish the last battle within Vesper’s Host raid. Upon completion, there’s a possibility that it will be among the loot you receive for conquering the dungeon.

As a gamer, I understand that similar to other dungeons with coveted exotics, there’s no guarantee of getting it upon defeating the final boss. It only has a chance to drop once per week, per character. This means you can’t grind the dungeon repeatedly to farm it. Instead, the weekly reset provides an opportunity to try again. If you prefer, you can also run the dungeon on three different characters, giving you three chances instead of one for that exotic to drop.

How to Increase Drop Rate for Ice Breaker

The good news is that your chances of dropping Ice Breaker increase each time you don’t get it. So, even though it may be a grind at the start, you are guaranteed to get the weapon at some point. Aside from this and trying to get it on three different characters, there is one other way to increase your chances of dropping the weapon. Some of the Vesper’s Host Triumphs also give an increased chance for Ice Breaker to drop once you’ve completed them:

  • Alone in the Dark: Complete all encounters in the Vesper’s Host dungeon solo without leaving the activity.
  • Stationmaster: Complete Vesper’s Host on Master difficulty.
  • Buried Secrets: Find all dungeon collectibles.

Achieving these victories isn’t a simple task; therefore, you might discover that you forgo using Ice Breaker while trying to unlock them instead.

Ice Breaker Perk Changes

Back in the original “Destiny”, my favorite weapon, the Ice Breaker, had a unique ability to continuously regenerate ammunition. Essentially, it transformed into an infinite ammo machine, which proved incredibly valuable for challenging higher-level activities. However, with the advent of “Destiny 2”, this perk has been altered.

With the latest “No Backpack” bonus, the Ice Breaker weapon will automatically reload ammunition whenever you secure final blows or assist with other weapons. Any formidable enemies you defeat will also spawn extra rounds, making it simple to regain your 10 rounds swiftly after using them. In essence, while you can still achieve infinite ammo for this weapon, it takes a bit longer to do so.

Furthermore, the Ice Breaker weapon also comes with an additional perk known as “Ice Breaker” again. This feature triggers when targets are defeated using this weapon, causing them to explode. Precise finishes or shattering a frozen target results in ignition, spreading the Scorch effect to nearby enemies. In summary, it’s a powerful weapon that excels in PvE scenarios and is definitely worth the effort invested in obtaining it from Vesper’s Host.
