In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kapp’n provides boat tours once you’ve unlocked him. With the 3.0 update, you now also need to unlock Kapp’n to be able to use the hotel on your island.
As a huge Animal Crossing fan, I’m so excited about the updates! Now, Kapp’n can take you on boat trips to mystery islands – it costs 1,000 Nook Miles, and you can go twice a day! It’s a great way to find those special items like Cherry Blossoms, Star Fragments, and Gyroid Fragments. But the best part? The hotel! It’s a massive addition to the game. You get to design rooms and do DIY projects, which unlock cool new items and features, and you even earn Hotel Tickets for completing tasks. It’s seriously adding so much to the game!
We’ve put together a guide explaining how to unlock Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and we’ve also covered all the different kinds of islands he’ll take you to.
How to Get Kapp’n in Animal Crossing New Horizons
To get Kapp’n in ACNH, you need to:
- Unlock the art section of the Museum
- Achieve a three-star island rating
- Have your first K.K Slider concert and see the credits
Once K.K. Slider has his first concert, Isabelle will let you know that boat tours are available. Just go to the end of the pier on your island to find Kapp’n waiting in his boat.
If you don’t see Kapp’n at his boat, go inside the hotel on the pier. This will start a conversation with Tom, Kapp’n, and Leilani. Once the conversation is over, Kapp’n will go back to waiting at his boat outside.
The articles linked above provide detailed instructions for earning a three-star island rating and unlocking K.K. Slider, but here’s a quick, simplified guide to the process:
- Pay off your initial debt with 5,000 Nook Miles
- Construct Nook’s Cranny
- Build your first bridge
- Build and place furniture for 3 arriving villagers
- Construct the building for Residential Services
- Construct the campground
- Talk to Isabelle to see your Island Evaluation
- Have at least eight villagers (having nine or ten gives you even more points)
- Pull all weeds on your island
- Plant and water lots of varieties of flowers
- Plant different varieties of trees and bushes (but having too many trees will deduct points)
- Place more variety of items outside
- Place more bridges, inclines, and fences
If you complete all the steps mentioned earlier, you should get your 3-star island rating soon after K.K. Slider visits. Just make sure your island isn’t overly cluttered with trees or items scattered on the ground, like branches, rocks, shells, and bottles.
