Luminwing Butterflies are bugs you can catch with your net on Starsand Island. They’re special because you need to collect enough of them to unlock deeper areas of the Moonlit Forest.

How to Get Luminwing Butterfly in Starsand Island

You can find Luminwing Butterflies in the Dreamfall Garden, which is located in the Moonlit Forest on Starsand Island. They’re active between 6am and 6pm, and are most common on sunny or snowy days. While rare, we’ve occasionally spotted them even when it’s raining, suggesting the weather requirements might be flexible. Fortunately, you can find them during any season – Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter.

Okay, so I figured out how to get to Dreamfall Garden! You basically have to hunt down all the Gate of Life Gravemite spots in the Moonlit Forest. Finding them all unlocks the Gate of Life door, and then you can go through. After that, you need to cross the river and head towards the back where you see those Moondew Shrooms – that’s where the Luminwing Butterflies hang out, and that’s how you get there!

To catch Luminwing Butterflies, simply equip a net and carefully sneak up to them before swinging your net. Moving slowly is key – if you rush, they’ll fly off! On a computer, you can hold down the CTRL key to sneak.

What is Luminwing Butterfly Used For?

To fix the Luminpath in the Dreamfall Garden, located in the Moonlit Forest, you’ll need to collect five Luminwing Butterflies. Repairing the path will allow you to continue further into the forest and reach the Crystalith Hideout.

After you collect five Luminwing Butterflies in Dreamfall Garden using your net, take them to the Luminpath console. You’ll find this console beyond the door that requires an upgraded pickaxe to open. Once you submit the butterflies, a blue bridge will extend upwards, leading you into the Crystalith Hideout.

Heads up! A tough boss is waiting at Crystalith Hideout, so it’s a good idea to bring weapons you can use from a distance.
