In TBH: Task Bar Hero, you begin with a single Hero. Although you can beat the first levels on your own, quickly adding another Hero to your team is a huge benefit. It significantly simplifies collecting resources, defeating bosses, and making overall progress in the game.
In TBH: Task Bar Hero, you can increase the number of Hero Slots you have by unlocking upgrades in the Runes tree. This tree becomes available once one of your Heroes reaches Level 3. To find the upgrades that add Hero Slots, start at the first Rune and navigate downwards.
How To Unlock Runes In TBH: Task Bar Hero
You’ll unlock the Runes feature once your first Hero reaches Level 3, which usually takes about five minutes of gameplay. When it’s unlocked, the Runes icon in the Hero menu will light up.
After unlocking the Runes feature, you’ll see a Runes symbol you can click to open the menu. Inside, you can use gold to unlock upgrades that last forever. These upgrades boost things like your fighting ability, how quickly you earn gold and experience, what you find in chests, how much you can carry, rewards you get while offline, and more. You can also unlock extra Hero Slots using Runes.
How To Unlock More Hero Slots In TBH: Task Bar Hero
You can unlock extra Hero slots by progressing through the Runes skill tree. Start with the ‘Rune of War’ and follow the path downwards. This will eventually lead you to the ‘Runes of Command’, which upgrade your Hero slots, allowing you to use more Heroes in battle.
Before you can unlock the first Rune of Command node, you’ll need to purchase:
- Rune of War: 100 gold.
- Rune of Growth: One level for 200 gold.
After unlocking the first Command Rune node, you’ll be able to deploy a second Hero through the Formation menu. Prioritizing this unlock is a good idea, as having two Heroes in battle is more beneficial early on than just slightly improving your stats.
How To Get The Third Hero Slot
You can unlock a third Hero Slot through the Runes menu, but it’s more expensive and requires deeper investment in the skill tree. After getting your first extra Hero Slot, you’ll need to purchase two ‘Rune of Expansion’ upgrades to get to the final ‘Rune of Command’ upgrade, which costs 150,000 gold.
Unlocking a third Hero might seem expensive at first, but it’s a valuable goal because it significantly boosts how quickly you gather resources, how well you survive challenges, and how fast you progress in the game. However, don’t rush to save up exactly 150,000 gold immediately after getting your second Hero. Since it takes time to earn that much, it’s usually better to spend a little gold on smaller upgrades – like those for gold gain, chests, offline rewards, and experience – to make your resource gathering more efficient along the way.
Just because you’ve unlocked a class doesn’t mean you can use more Heroes at once. You can unlock multiple classes, but you’ll still need to buy Hero Slot Runes to be able to deploy extra Heroes simultaneously.
How To Get Gold For Hero Slots
Need gold to buy Runes? The best way to get it early in the game is by selling extra gear using the Alchemy feature in the Cube. The Cube becomes available at Level 4, and Alchemy lets you convert unwanted items into gold. While it will still take time to earn the 150,000 gold needed for the third Hero Slot, focusing on Alchemy instead of Synthesis is a very efficient way to earn money and upgrade your Runes.
To speed up your progress, it’s a good idea to buy some inexpensive Runes before you reach 150,000 gold. These Runes cost 1,000 gold or less and help you earn more gold, get better rewards while offline, find more valuable items in chests, or increase the value of your alchemy creations.
Should You Unlock Gold Runes Before Hero Slots?
Okay, so as someone who’s played a LOT, here’s my advice: seriously, get that first extra Hero Slot unlocked ASAP. It makes a huge difference. Once you’ve got a second Hero out there helping, then it’s worth grabbing a few of those cheaper economy Runes to boost your income before you start saving up for the big one – the Rune of Command. Here are a few early economy Runes I think are really good to focus on…
- The Rune of Wealth node above the starting Rune of War node increases gold earned from stage bosses. Its three levels cost 200 gold, 300 gold, and 500 gold, and each level adds +10 gold from stage bosses. This means you can spend just 1,000 gold to earn +30 gold from every stage boss, which pays for itself after about 34 boss rewards.
- The Rune of Wealth node that gives flat gold per kill, which is to the left of the boss Rune of Wealth node, is also strong early. It costs 1,000 gold and gives +1 gold per kill, which pays for itself after 1,000 kills.
- The Rune of Wealth nodes that increase gold earned per kill by a percentage can also be worthwhile when they are cheap, though you should not invest in them too heavily while enemies are still giving small amounts of gold.
- The Rune of Exploration node to the right of the boss Rune of Wealth node increases the drop chance of common chests. While it’s harder to calculate the exact value of this upgrade, it can be worth putting some gold toward it, as bonus chests give you more items to equip, synthesize, or sell through Alchemy.
- Rune of Repose, which is found on the top path, unlocks offline rewards, including gold and experience. It only costs 100 gold, and it’s worth picking up if you will be closing the game frequently.
Runes that boost experience points (XP) can be helpful, although they don’t give you gold directly. Earning XP faster lets your Heroes level up quicker, beat tougher levels, and get better rewards. If you’re struggling with a level, need to improve some extra Heroes, or want to unlock better farming spots, inexpensive XP boosts can be a smart choice. However, if your main goal is just to save gold quickly, focusing on gold and chest upgrades is usually more effective.
To start, it’s best to unlock your first extra Hero Slot and fully upgrade the Rune of Wealth, as it’s inexpensive. If you often play offline, also unlock the Rune of Repose. Then, focus on buying helpful Runes that boost your economy or experience for 1,000 gold or less. After that, save up diligently to purchase the 150,000-gold Hero Slot.
Should You Unlock Hero Slots Or Skill Slots First?
You can gain an extra ability slot for your Heroes by progressing along the bottom branch of the Runes tree. However, most players will benefit more from unlocking a third Hero slot first.
Having a third Hero Slot lets you bring an extra character onto the battlefield, increasing your overall attack power, providing more space for equipment, and adding new abilities to your team. This is generally more helpful than getting another Skill Slot, as you typically won’t have enough points to fully develop secondary skills early in the game.
A good early priority order is:
- Reach Level 3 to unlock Runes.
- Unlock Rune of War for 100 gold.
- Unlock one level of Rune of Growth for 200 gold.
- Unlock the first Rune of Command node for an additional Hero Slot.
- Build a stable two-Hero party.
- Max the early stage-boss Rune of Wealth, which costs 1,000 gold total and pays for itself after about 34 boss rewards.
- Unlock Rune of Repose if you regularly close the game.
- Pick up cheap economy Runes, such as flat gold per kill or common chest drop chance, if you’re still far from 150,000 gold.
- Consider cheap XP Runes if you’re stuck, leveling extra Heroes, or need to reach better farming stages.
- Continue downward through Rune of Expansion and the required connected nodes.
- Save 150,000 gold for the final Rune of Command node.
- Unlock the additional Skill Slot after your party has more Heroes and levels.
Best Heroes To Add First
The first Hero you add to your team depends on your starting class, but a Knight and Ranger or a Knight and Priest combination are both excellent choices. If you want to deal more damage and farm resources faster, go with the Knight and Ranger. If you prioritize staying alive, especially with the Priest’s healing ability, then the Knight and Priest is the way to go.
After unlocking three Hero Slots, a good starting team includes a Knight, Ranger, and Priest. The Knight can take a lot of damage, the Ranger deals consistent damage, and the Priest provides healing and support. This combination creates a well-rounded team that can effectively complete tasks and survive challenging levels.
If you’re thinking of buying the downloadable heroes, Hunter and Slayer can be strong additions to your team. However, it’s best to try them out before swapping them for your reliable starting characters – Knight, Ranger, and Priest – just to make sure they fit well.
How To Deploy Additional Heroes
Okay, so I’ve unlocked some extra Hero Slots, which is awesome! Now I need to actually unlock the Heroes to fill them. Here’s how I do it: I head to the Hero menu and click the ‘Formation’ tab at the bottom. Then, I find the Hero I want to unlock under the ‘Characters’ list and click on the gold cost that pops up under their picture. Easy peasy!
Okay, so once you’ve unlocked a Hero, instead of paying gold, you’ll see a ‘Deploy’ button. Just click that, then click on the Hero slot where you want them to stand. You can also mess around with the order in the Formation menu – I always put my toughest Hero in the front to soak up the damage, it’s a good habit to get into!
If one of your Heroes falls in battle, you can replace them with a Hero who hasn’t been deployed yet. This can help your team survive if everyone is about to be defeated before the fallen Hero can recover, but it’s not always the best strategy.
Why Can’t I Add More Heroes?
If you can’t add another Hero to your party, check the following:
- Make sure you’ve reached Level 3 and unlocked the Rune feature.
- Make sure you’ve unlocked a Rune of Command node for an additional Hero Slot.
- Make sure you’ve unlocked an additional Hero through the Formation menu.
- Make sure the Hero has been deployed into an open slot.
A frequent point of confusion is the difference between unlocking a character class and increasing your Hero Slots. While purchasing or unlocking a class gives you access to that Hero, it doesn’t change how many Heroes you can have active in battle at the same time.
Are More Hero Slots Worth It?
Hero Slots are a really helpful early upgrade in TBH: Task Bar Hero. They let you add more heroes to your team, which means stronger parties, faster farming, and the ability to create unique team combinations you couldn’t make with just one character.
Focus on unlocking your second and third Hero Slots early in the game, as they’re important milestones. But don’t completely ignore other upgrades while you’re working towards them! After getting your second Hero Slot, it’s often a good idea to invest in affordable upgrades that boost your gold, chest rewards, offline progress, or experience before saving up for the 150,000-gold Rune of Command.
