When you start a new game in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and move to Tom Nook’s island, you’ll quickly find that your inventory space is limited, and your pockets fill up fast.
Gamers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can expand their inventory space, which makes the game much easier to enjoy. This guide explains everything players need to do to get the most out of their pocket space.
How to Get More Inventory Slots in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When you start playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll begin with 20 spaces to hold items. You can increase this to a maximum of 40 spaces by adding 10 more slots twice throughout the game.
30 Inventory Slots

To expand your inventory for the first time, you’ll need to buy the Pocket Organization Guide. This item appears at the Nook Stop in Tom Nook’s tent once you’ve paid off your initial loan of 5,000 Nook Miles.
You can get the new expansion by going to the Nook Stop terminal and using your Nook Miles. Just redeem 5,000 Nook Miles for the Pocket Organization Guide. Once you’ve purchased and applied it, you’ll have 30 slots in your inventory.
40 Inventory Slots (Max Inventory Space)
-
If you want to carry the most items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to buy Ultimate Pocket Stuffing from the Nook Stop using 8,000 Nook Miles.
You’ll be able to get this improvement after upgrading the Resident Services tent into a building. Once you do, you’ll have much more storage space – you’ll be able to carry up to 40 stacks of items in your inventory.
