In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, a level 30 Ghost-type Pokémon blocks the entrance to the top floor of the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. This Pokémon seems to phase through attacks and tells anyone who gets close to leave.
To figure out who’s hiding in the fog and reach the top of Pokemon Tower (7F), you’ll need an item called the Silph Scope. This guide will show you exactly where to find the Silph Scope, how to obtain it, and how to use it to unlock the final floor of the tower.

How to Get the Silph Scope in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, you can get the Silph Scope by winning a battle against Giovanni, who is located in the Rocket Hideout hidden beneath the Celadon Game Corner.
Head to the Game Corner and find a Team Rocket Grunt near the reception desk, standing by a poster. Beat him in battle, then check the poster he was facing – it will open the entrance to the Rocket Hideout on the right.
Head down the first set of stairs to enter Rocket Hideout’s first basement level. Then, go down another set of stairs heading east to reach the second basement level.
Don’t worry about the puzzle with the spinning tiles. Instead, head down the stairs near the top of the room to get to level B3.
Go through the spinner tiles as shown in the screenshot above to reach B4F.
Beat the Rocket Grunt in the upper-left corner of the room, and he’ll leave the Lift Key behind.
Pick up the Lift Key, return to B1F and enter the elevator on the south side of the room.
Take the elevator back down to the fourth basement level to find Giovanni. If you defeat him in battle, you’ll get the Silph Scope.
How to Get Past Pokemon Tower Ghost in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Now that you have the Silph Scope, head back to the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. Go up to the sixth floor, then approach the stairs to the next level. This will start a battle with a level 30 Ghost Pokémon.
Use Repel to avoid the Ghost-type Pokemon in the Pokemon Tower.
The Silph Scope will show you that the ghost Pokémon is really a Marowak, a Ground-type Pokémon hidden by the fog. Once you know the truth, you can defeat Marowak and help its spirit find peace.
The level 30 Marowak, nicknamed “Ghost,” in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen cannot be caught. No matter how many Poke Balls you use, it will always escape. You must defeat it in battle to continue playing the game.
Once you’ve defeated Marowak, head up the stairs to the top of the Pokemon Tower. Beat the two Rocket Grunts guarding Mr. Fuji, then speak to him to receive the Poke Flute as your reward. You’ll need the Poke Flute to wake up the Snorlax blocking the road on Route 12 and in other parts of the FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald games.
After receiving the Poke Flute, you’ll be able to enter the Silph Co. building in Saffron City.
