In Hades 2, players can collect various resources to aid Melinoë in her journey to defeat the Titan of Time. Plankton is one of these – it’s a seed that can be turned into the valuable Snake-Reed. However, finding Plankton isn’t always simple. This guide will show you how to obtain both Plankton and Snake-Reed, so you can use them to progress in the game.
How to Get Plankton in Hades 2
Plankton seeds are found by digging in the Summit, a location you’ll reach later in the game. By this point, you likely already have the Silver Spade, which is needed to dig up these resources.
To get the Silver Spade, you’ll first need the Pick. You unlock the Pick by using one Moly and reciting the Incantation Night’s Craftwork. After that, you can buy the Spade for 10 silver.
Okay, so reaching the top of Mt. Olympus doesn’t automatically give you Plankton. It’s a pretty rare find, honestly. I’ve had to run that level a bunch of times just to find a Digging Spot where I can actually use my Silver Spade. It’s a pain because getting to the Summit is already a challenge, and then you have to get lucky with the drop rate. It can take a while!
Choosing the right Familiar can help you find more resources. If you’ve chosen Plankton, Hecuba is the best choice. Using the ‘Attending a Faithful Beat’ incantation will also give you a 10% better chance of finding resources that Plankton specializes in.
How to Get Snake-Reed in Hades 2
With Plankton in hand, head back to the Crossroads. There, use the Flourishing Soil spell to make some garden plots. You’ll need six Moly to craft these at the Cauldron.
After planting Plankton, it takes 77 ‘Whiles’ to grow before you can harvest it. A ‘While’ passes each time you finish a room, go fishing at the docks, use the hot springs in Crossroads, or drink Ambrosia at the tavern.
What is Snake-Reed Used for in Hades 2?
Snake-Reed has several uses. You can use it to power spells at the Cauldron and unlock the Aspect of Hel for the Argent Skull at The Silver Pool. It also unlocks the Wagon and the Soothsayer’s Decoration for the Crossroads Renewal Project (obtained from Dora). Finally, you can sell Snake-Reed to the Wretched Broker for 140 Kudos apiece.
I’ve listed the incantations it is used for below:
- Greatest Gift of Gaia: Grants the power to automatically harvest any resource in each Location whenever you exit. Requires 3 Snake-Reed.
- Green Hand of Gaia: Improves gathering from Soil Plots so that you harvest all flourished Soil Plots at the same time. Requires 1 Snake-Reed.
- Path to Desired Blessings: Allows you to track offering requirements when viewing Boons in the Book of Shadows. Requires 2 Snake-Reed.
