As a seasoned adventurer who’s seen my fair share of dungeons and dragons, I must say that this guide has been quite the treasure trove! It’s not every day one gets to delve into the depths of Manoza Castle, face off against a Boss Troll, and retrieve the elusive Mod Rod.
Once you finish “Kidnapper’s Cave” and obtain a ship during the “Dragon Quest 3 Remake”, you have the freedom to choose your next destination. There are crucial locations to explore once you possess the “Ultimate Key”. With this Key and Ship, one vital place to visit is “Manoza”. Completing Manoza offers two critical items essential for winning the game. In this guide, we’ll demonstrate how to accomplish Manoza City and Cave in the “Dragon Quest 3 Remake”, and show you the way to get the Mod Rod & Ra’s Mirror.
How to Get to Manoza in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
To visit Manoza in the DQ3 Remake, you’ll first need to obtain the Ultimate Key. That’s because the sole entry point to the town is through a portal which can only be opened using this key.
Wayfarer’s Chapel Portal:
To enter Manoza, you must first reach Wayfarer’s Chapel, which is the only other settlement in the area surrounded by mountains on the southeast continent. From the chapel, you will be able to reach Manoza on foot.
There are two ways to reach Wayfarer’s Chapel:
- Olivia’s Promontory: On the eastern side of this location, you’ll find two portals behind a door that is unlocked with the Ultimate Key. Use the portal on the right to reach Wayfarer’s Chapel
- Teleportal Shrine: The Teleportal Shrine features three portals. You’ll want to take the portal on the far right/eastern side of the room to reach Wayfarer’s Chapel.
After arriving at Wayfarer’s Chapel, proceed north until you come across a western bridge. Cross the bridge, then follow the path until it allows you to turn south. Continue moving south, and you’ll find Manoza in no time.
Manoza Castle Walkthrough – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Upon your initial visit to the town of Manoza, you’ll notice a solemn atmosphere. In the northeastern part of town, right by the cemetery, you’ll witness a funeral procession taking place. Engage in conversations with those present at the funeral and other townsfolk to gather information about the ongoing events in Manoza. Essentially, it appears that the King has undergone an unexpected change.
To discover what’s happening, you might want to navigate towards the castle. You can get there by moving in the direction of the southwest part of town, where the castle’s entrance is typically found.
As you traverse the bridge and continue along the path towards the southwest, you’ll find yourself halted upon reaching the castle gates. The guard here is a young man who lost his family at the hands of the king, and he strongly advises against entering the castle, claiming it to be treacherous. Nevertheless, after conversing with him, your mission in the game will become uncovering the king’s hidden truth.
As a gamer, I traverse westward until I spot the grand fortress gate and doors ahead. Stepping through this entrance would lead me to a roadblock by the watchful guards. Instead, I veer east from the front door, then loop around to the north side of the castle. The journey ends at a secluded path terminating at a solitary blue door (my coveted Magic Key). A lone sentinel stands guard here, but he’ll let me pass without hassle should I attempt entry.
Inside Manoza Castle:
Within Manoza Castle, navigate through the kitchens and head towards the central hall. In the heart of it, find the King, who’ll have a quest marker floating above him. Interacting with him initiates an automatic cutscene, so feel free to roam around the castle first if you wish. But rest assured, you can explore the castle further after completing this quest too.
Straightaway following your conversation with the monarch, he’ll order the guards to imprison you in the dank cells. This marks the start of a significant part of the adventure: your escape from the underground prison.
How to Escape Manoza Castle Dungeon:
Once you’ve reclaimed control within the dungeon, you’ll discover yourself confined in a jail cell located in the southwest corner. Fortunately, the Ultimate Key at your disposal can unlock any door in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. To progress, just leave the cell and travel east, followed by moving south to depart this part of the dungeon. This allows you to open all the cell doors and interact with the other detainees.
There is a Mini-Medal in a pot in the cell directly across from the cell you start in.
Descend to the lower level, and you’ll find the game revealing that the genuine King is imprisoned in a dungeon cell. The King will share with you the secrets of Manoza Cave, and a magical artifact hidden within – the Ra’s Mirror – which can expose the false King’s essence.
Following my audience with the monarch, I navigated eastward, locating a hidden chamber. There, nestled in the northwest corner, I found the enigmatic artifact known as Fading Jenny, resting inside a pot. Continuing through an opening in the eastern wall, I followed the winding path which eventually led me to the eerie Manoza Graveyard.
Manoza Cave B1 Walkthrough – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
How to Reach Manoza Cave:
Not only does the actual king confirm this, but also the victim’s offspring. They both agree that the cave you seek lies southeast of the city. Take a look at your map; it might be quite a stroll, yet it’s doable on foot. When you feel prepared, proceed to the small island, cross the bridge, and venture into the cave.
Manoza Cave lays amidst vast toxic puddles. Should you be accompanied by a magical practitioner, either a Mage or Sage, employ the “Safe Passage” incantation to navigate safely through these purplish regions.
Manoza Cave B1 Main Path:
Upon accessing Manoza Cave, you’ll find that it has a single exit, which descends to B2. This exit is nearly centered within B1 and is clearly indicated by a green line, much like the cave entrance.
On the first basement level, you’ll encounter the following enemies:
- Voodoogooder
- Shadow
- Wyrtle
All Treasure on B1:
- Treasure Chest: Full Moon Ring
- Treasure Chest: Phial of Magic Water
Manoza Cave B2 Walkthrough – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Manoza Cave B2 Main Path:
On the lowermost level of Manoza Cave, you’ll find it overflowing with Treasure Chests. However, beware! Many of these chests are disguised as something else – we refer to them as Mimics. We’ll provide a list detailing which chests hold real treasures and which ones are Mimics shortly. To reach the desired section of B3, you should not take the usual green exit.
Instead, glance just beneath the entry point on your map. There, you’ll spot a black dot symbol, which in fact marks a secret location on level B3 where you can find Ra’s Mirror.
On the B2 level, you’ll encounter one of the friendly creatures from the remake of Dragon Quest 3. This particular creature is named Rocky. You can discover him in this location.
All Treasure on B2:
Mimic Chests are marked in red on the map. Treasure is marked in white.
- Leather Hat
- Chimera Wing
- Ice Shield
- Antidotal Herb
- 1,084 Gold Coins
- Mini Medal
- Iron Helm
- 7, 921 Gold Coins
- Agility Ring

Manoza Castle B3 Ra’s Mirror Walkthrough – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Manoza Cave B3 Main Path:
If you tumble through the opening in location B2, you’ll end up on a tiny isle. On this isle, you’ll stumble upon a chest holding the artifact known as Ra’s Mirror.
Following the usual path from B2, you’ll stumble upon a hidden treasure on the western bank of the pond. Inside this chest lies the famous Cat Suit. Now that you have Ra’s Mirror in your possession, it’s high time to make your way back to Manoza Castle.
How to Defeat the Boss Troll in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Given that you possess Ra’s Mirror now, it’s advisable to make your way to Manoza Castle exclusively during the nighttime. Venturing into the King’s audience hall during daylight hours could result in your immediate re-imprisonment.
Afterward, ascend the stairs located in the northeast corner of the castle to get to its rooftop. At the end of these stairs, you’ll encounter another set of stairs leading up to an ancient tower. Jump off from this tower onto the roof, and pass through the door into the central structure.
Within, you’ll encounter a pretender king peacefully resting in his bed. A quest symbol hovers above his head, suggesting it’s time to engage with him. When prompted, respond affirmatively, and the hidden Boss Troll will appear.
In a nutshell, the formidable Boss Troll has immense power, yet maintaining a constant healing companion significantly expedites the battle. The secret lies in concentrating your most potent ice attacks directly on it.
How to Get the Mod Rod in DQ3 Remake:
After successfully vanquishing the Boss Troll, the genuine King will reward you with the Mod Rod graciously. This event transpires spontaneously following the battle.
