Exploring the world in Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake can be tiring because you’ll run into enemies very frequently – about every five to ten seconds. These enemies aren’t weak, and battles can take a while, especially when you’re navigating dungeons. To make things even harder, the game also features cursed equipment that can hinder your progress.
The game features cursed items that don’t appear dangerous until you equip them. Once equipped, these items become stuck and can’t be removed. This guide provides information on these items in Dragon Quest 1&2 Remake to help players deal with them.
How to Get Rid of Curses in Dragon Quest 1&2 Remake
Usually, it’s pretty easy to spot cursed items because their descriptions often give you clues about their negative effects. Before you equip something new, check its description. If it doesn’t warn about taking unexplained damage or drawing extra enemies, it’s probably safe to use.
Okay, so if you’ve got a cursed item in either Dragon Quest 1 Remake or Dragon Quest 2, getting rid of it is pretty similar in both games. You basically need to head to a town with a church, or find one of the nuns marked on your map. These are the same places where you save, check your experience, or bring a party member back to life. When you talk to a nun, you’ll see an option called ‘Benediction’. Choosing that will lift the curse and actually give you the item back, putting it right in your inventory!
Okay, so this does cost a good chunk of Gold, which can be tough, especially when you’re just starting out. Trust me, you really don’t want to get into the habit of picking up curses, because they’ll drain your Gold super quickly. I learned that the hard way!
Just so you know, using Benediction doesn’t lift the curse from an item—it simply un-equips it from the player. So, avoid re-equipping cursed items unless you’re okay with being cursed again. However, if an item is really powerful, like the Ten Ton Toupee or Zombie Mail, you can use it during a dungeon for a boost and then Benediction it off afterward to get rid of the curse.
