Lumiose City is back in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and you can find lots of Pokémon you know and love, like Squirtle! Here’s how to catch one.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is exciting for many reasons, including the comeback of Mega Evolution and a large number of beloved Pokémon to catch and find in their rare, Shiny forms.

How to Get Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You can receive Squirtle as a gift relatively early in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but getting it involves a tough choice.
After you’ve gotten settled in Lumiose City and learned the ropes – like finishing a few of Mable’s research assignments – she’ll ask you to return to her office.
When you arrive, you’ll meet three Pokémon you probably know well: Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Mable is currently caring for them and is looking for responsible trainers to give them a good home.
You can’t have all three Pokémon right away, so you’ll need to pick just one to start with. While this first Pokémon is guaranteed to not be shiny, you’ll still have a chance to find shiny versions of all three, including the two you didn’t choose, later on.
Where to Catch Squirtle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Similar to the other Pokémon starters from the Kanto region, you can find Squirtle in Wild Zone 20, but you’ll need to play quite a bit of the game before you can get there.
Just like in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you can find and even catch the starter Pokémon you *didn’t* pick at the beginning of the game, including the other two Kanto starters you may have missed. But you won’t be able to get them until after you’ve finished the main story, so your initial choice of starter really matters!
You’ll unlock Wild Zone 20 after finishing the main story and completing Mission 38, “The Future of Lumiose City.” This marks the start of a lot of extra content available after the credits roll in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
