Hytale features many different resources to collect, and each one plays an important role in the game. Sturdy Chitin is one of these materials, and you’ll need to gather it to continue making progress.
Sturdy Chitin, like many items in Hytale, is mainly found in one specific area, and there’s a particular method for getting it. TopMob has the full information.
Best Location to Find Sturdy Chitin in Hytale

You can only find Sturdy Chitin in Hytale’s Howling Sands – the desert area – by defeating certain enemies.
Sturdy Chitin is a resource dropped by many creatures in Hytale. Generally, if a mob has natural armor, it will drop this resource when defeated. Some of the creatures that drop Sturdy Chitin include:
- Scorpions
- Armadillos
- Tortoises
- Scarak Defender, Fighter, Louse, Seeker & Broodmother
While you can get Sturdy Chitin from Tortoises, Scorpions, and Armadillos, they only drop a small amount, making it a slow way to collect it. For faster farming, it’s best to hunt Scarak enemies, which are usually found in underground nests.
The enemies in these nests drop a good amount of Sturdy Chitin. However, you’ll probably need to defeat several of them to gather enough for the two important upgrades you’ll need.
What is Sturdy Chitin Used For in Hytale?
Sturdy Chitin is used to improve your Tanning Rack to Level 2 and your Armorer’s Workbench to Level 3.
To improve your gear, you’ll need to build an Armorer’s Workbench and upgrade your Tanning Rack. This requires a significant amount of Sturdy Chitin – 40 for the Workbench and 5 for the Rack.
Luckily, Sturdy Chitin isn’t hard to find. The creatures that drop it are fairly common, so you’ll usually have a good supply. The most difficult part might just be the trip back and forth between where you find it and your base.
