To get a powerful early-game talisman called Thunderstorm Shot in Nioh 3, you’ll need Sudama Soul Cores. Unlike most Yokai Soul Cores which drop from defeating enemies, these can only be bought with in-game currency, making them a little harder to obtain.
The game doesn’t clearly explain how to get Sudama Soul Cores, which can be confusing for players. This guide will show you exactly how to obtain them in Nioh 3. Read on for the details.
How to Get Sudama Soul Core in Nioh 3
Sudama Soul Core Location
You can get a Sudama Soul Core by trading Yokai Teardrops with a Sudama merchant in Nioh 3. Sudama are the small, purple creatures with skull masks who sell helpful items.
You can find the easiest Sudama Merchant within the Eternal Rift, which becomes available after you beat Jakotsu-Baba during the first main mission’s boss fight in the Crucible.
The Sudama Merchants have three sections: Buy, where you spend Gold to get items; Exchange, where you use Yokai Teardrops to buy items; and Sell, where you earn Gold by selling items. Sudama Soul Cores can only be obtained through purchases made in the Exchange section – buying or selling with Gold will not give you this item, regardless of how much you spend.
Sudama Merchants
Sudama Soul Cores don’t drop the same way everywhere in Nioh 3. The Sudama you fight in the Eternal Rift have different drop rates than those found on the regular maps.

|---|---|---|
| Sudama (Eternal Rift) | Every time you purchase an item in the “Exchange” tab using Yokai Teardrops, there is a chance a Sudama Soul Core will drop as well. After a Sudama Soul Core drops once from this Sudama, it will appear in its Exchange shop as a purchasable item. You will be able to purchase Yellow rarity Sudama Soul Cores for 3 Yokai Teardrops each, and Common rarity Sudama Soul Cores for 2 Yokai Teardrops each. These Soul Cores will have limited availability but are restocked regularly. | |
| Sudama (Overworld) | Every Sudama you find outside the Eternal Rift, in the overworld maps, will have a few one-time-only items for sale in the “Exchange” tab. When you clear out the shop’s entire supply, a single Sudama Soul Core will drop with a 100% guarantee. This method is non-repeatable since these items do not restock. |
You can get Yokai Teardrops in Nioh 3 by beating Kappa (the golden-shelled yokai), discovering Hot Springs, catching Scampus, winning against bosses, and finishing missions.
