As a seasoned adventurer with countless battles and treasures under my belt, let me guide you through the labyrinthine world of Gaia’s Navel, a place where even the bravest of hearts might quiver.
After obtaining the Ultimate Key within Dragon Quest 3 Remake, a variety of possibilities await for your next steps. Essentially, after securing the key, the primary objective shifts to gathering the colored orbs scattered across the game world. The sequence in which you collect these orbs is entirely flexible. In this guide, we delve into the quest for the Blue Orb and the dungeon where it’s found – Gaia’s Navel.
Gaia’s Navel is a special dungeon that is hidden in the town of Lanson. Like many of the mid-to-late game areas, you will need the Ultimate Key to enter the dungeon. This particular dungeon is unique, because it requires you to enter with only one party member. In this guide, we’ll show you how to find and complete the Gaia’s Navel dungeon, and how to get the Blue Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
How to Find and Enter Gaia’s Navel in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
During your journeys, there’s a chance you might have stumbled upon Gaia’s Navel without realizing it. This notable spot is situated in the town of Lanson, an urban center nestled on the western island, just beyond Aliahan’s Island. Upon your inaugural visit to Lanson, you’ll need to arrive by sea. However, once you’ve been there, it will become accessible through your fast-travel options for future visits.
As I wandered through the vibrant streets of Lanson, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the imposing shrine nestled on the northern side, hidden behind a maze of shops and everyday structures. At first glance, it appeared sealed off, its door an unmistakable hue that suggested only the Ultimate Key could unlock its secrets.
After obtaining the key, you can access the shrine through its two main doors. The buildings on either side of the main structure do not provide a way to the dungeon. Inside, there is an NPC priest who needs to be spoken with. This priest will tell you that only one individual may participate in the trial. The character you are controlling when speaking to him will be the one who enters Gaia’s Core.
Entering Gaia’s Navel in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
After your second conversation with the Priest, embark on your solitary journey towards Gaia’s Navel. Leaving the main path from the shrine behind, you’ll encounter a walled-off stretch of desert, hidden within lies the entrance to Gaia’s Navel. Venture to the western edge of this desert expanse, and you’ll uncover a concealed location, often referred to as a “Secret Spot.” This secluded area is home to Ribbert, an amiable Overtoad who appears fearful. To capture Ribbert, make use of a Thief or Monster Wrangler character.
In the center of the desert area, you’ll find the cave entrance to Gaia’s Navel.
Gaia’s Navel B1 Walkthrough – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Gaia’s Navel Main Path B1:
Upon your initial foray into Gaia’s Navel, you’ll find yourself on what we call B1, the Basement Level 1. This first level is designed as a starting point for solo adventurers like yourself. Spend some time getting accustomed to the single-player combats before venturing deeper, where you’ll encounter more challenging adversaries.
Utilizing a Thief equipped with the Padfoot ability could potentially help minimize the frequency of run-ins. Alternatively, the Holy Protection spell that the Hero possesses can also accomplish this task.
Immediately upon stepping into room B1, you’ll encounter a fork leading left and right, representing an endless hallway that extends infinitely if you keep walking straight ahead. To leave this area, simply turn back and retrace your steps until you reach the central chamber. If you choose to proceed to the east at the junction, you’ll come across Percival, a benevolent monster who resides in the initial part of the corridor. You may require the assistance of a Monster Wrangler or Thief to persuade him from fleeing.
All Treasure on Gaia’s Navel B1:
At the heart of location B1, you’ll find four rectangular rooms flanking the primary pathway, with two on either side. These rooms hide valuable treasures. Let’s label them for convenience: room 1 and 2 are on the right, while room 3 and 4 are on the left.
Additionally, you’ll find two valuable items hidden in room B1. These can only be reached by entering through the expansive chamber in room B2. On the provided maps and treasure inventory, they will be marked as B1-A and B1-B respectively.
All B1 Treasure:
- Seed of Lidfe
- Seed of Wisdom
- Prayer Ring
- Cannibox
B1-A Treasure:
- 3,640 Gold Coins
B1-B Treasure:
- Earthenwear

Gaia’s Navel B2 Main Path:
Upon accessing B2 via the B1 staircase, you’ll encounter a spacious room with additional sets of stairs. Specifically, the only stairs you should utilize for your descent to B3 are located in the northeastern corner. The stairs in the northwestern and southeastern corners serve as B1-A and B1-B, mentioned earlier in this guide. These stairs lead to separate chambers on level B1. For details about the treasure chests in these sections, refer back to the B1 section of the guide.

There are three pots on level B2:
- Musk
- Fading Jenny
- Banishing Bell

Gaia’s Navel B3 Main Path:
On your initial journey to Gaia’s Navel, you’ll find that only one route is significant on level B3. When you arrive at the fork in the road, opt for the northern path, which is marked by a yellow symbol on the map. This route will guide you to the Blue Orb, and a battle with the dungeon’s main antagonist, The Chiromancer.
Although the path to the boss might seem unusual due to the giant heads on the walls trying to deceive you, just finish any challenges along the way. Once done, ensure that you fully restore your Health Points (HP) and Magic Points (MP) prior to reaching the Blue Orb.
Heading towards the south leads you to a hidden room, where you’ll find the one and only Zenithium piece from the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. This valuable item can only be obtained after you’ve navigated your way through the Quagmire Cave in Alefgard. A comprehensive guide on this journey will be provided at the end of this walkthrough.
How to Defeat the Chiromancer in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
In the remake of Dragon Quest 3, The Chiromancer is considered a relatively simpler boss compared to others. Given that it’s exceptionally weak against electric attacks, it’s advisable to return for your hero if you’re not playing solo in the game.
In this scenario, the Chiromancer travels with a character named Mad Vlad who reduces your Magic Points (MP) at the beginning of every turn. Therefore, it’s crucial to initiate combat with as much MP as you can muster. We managed to defeat them both swiftly by prioritizing attacks on the Chiromancer each round and essentially leaving Mad Vlad unattended until the final moments. In simpler terms, we focused on defeating the Chiromancer first, while only dealing with Mad Vlad near the end of the battle.
Defeating The Chiromancer will allow you to grab the Blue Orb from the pedestal.
All Treasure on Gaia’s Navel B3:
There are two treasure chests next to the Blue Orb:
- Mini Medal
- Spirit Bracer

How to Get Zenithium & Auroral Helm in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
If you went ahead and found the secret passage beneath the statue on B3, then you know there is a chunk of Zenithium stuck in the wall at the bottom of Gaia’s Navel. You can use this material to repair Ortega’s Helm and turn it into the Auroral Helm.
Get Ortega’s Helm:
To begin this task, it’s crucial that you obtain Ortega’s Helm in Mur. Navigate your way to the shop located in the northeastern part of town. Look for the entrance on the eastern side, go up the stairs, and then move behind the counter where Ortega’s Helm is kept. Engage in conversation with the man at the counter, and he will hand over the helm to you.
Quagmire Cave:
Upon arriving at Alefgard, make your way towards the Quagmire Cave located in the northeastern part of the map. This cave is situated near the river that flows into the sea just south of the northeastern corner. Once you’ve reached the southeastern corner of the cave, engage with the NPC who has a quest marker above him. He will initiate the game sequence enabling you to acquire another Wrecking Ball in Reeve.
Wrecking Ball 2 – Reeve:
Return to Reeve, to the gentleman who initially provided you with the Wrecking Ball at the start of the game. You can find him in a house located in the northeastern part of the town. Ascend the stairs, and he’ll hand over another Wrecking Ball for you.
Return to Gaia’s Navel:
Instead of going north at Gaia’s Navel level B3, you should head south now. At the end of this route, you’ll encounter a statue that you can engage with. Descend to the lower level and touch the blue stone on the wall. This action will initiate a brief video clip showing Zenithium being expelled from the wall. With this material in your possession, you are now ready to create the Auroral Helm.
Shrine of the Dwarf:
Navigate to the ‘Dwarf’s Sanctum’, which lies northward along the seashore from Mur. Engage in conversation with the dwarf there and permit him to mend Ortega’s Helmet. After the repair, you will acquire the ‘Aurora Helmet’, one of the top-tier armor items within the game.
This will conclude the process, but remember Gaia’s Navel. If you need to quickly level-up a single party member, it is one of the best locations to do it. This is especially true for the mid-level party members who are strong enough to hol their own.
