How to Get the Golden Fire Hat in Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei features 85 different hats, helmets, and headbands. You can usually find these items by following the guiding wind, or by unlocking them as you upgrade all 13 of Atsu’s armor sets. But sometimes, the way to get them is different.

A Game Rant reader, Adam, brought to our attention a hidden hat in Ghost of Yotei. You can only get it if Atsu is captured by Saito’s outlaws in Teshio Ridge, and the way to make that happen is to intentionally let yourself be defeated.

How to Get the Secret Golden Fire Hat in Ghost of Yotei

To earn the Golden Fire Hat, you need to be captured by Saito’s outlaws and brought to their camp. Head to the Teshio Ridge area and find a group of Saito’s men. Keep in mind this won’t work if you approach members of the Nine Tails, so you might need to search for a bit. Look for enemies wearing red – once you find them, you’re ready to be captured.

Next, you need to let the outlaws defeat Atsu – this happens fast, especially on harder difficulties. Don’t try to revive her! Instead, allow an outlaw to deliver the final hit. If done correctly, a special cutscene will play, and you’ll find Atsu tied up in the outlaws’ camp.

After regaining control, players need to repeatedly press the X button to break free. Then, they can quietly approach and eliminate the two bandits by the campfire. Once they’re dealt with, players can open the purple chest nearby to find the Golden Fire Hat. This hat isn’t the only unique cosmetic item in Ghost of Yotei, though—there’s another one that actually gives players a special advantage.

How to Get Kanemori’s Two-Faced Mask in Ghost of Yotei

You can complete Ghost of Yotei without using the camping system, but doing so means you’ll miss a unique encounter and a powerful item: the Kanemori’s Two-Faced Mask. This mask significantly boosts Atsu’s combat damage, doubling it. While it also makes her take double damage, this isn’t a major issue on the Lethal difficulty, as most attacks are instantly fatal anyway.

To obtain Kanemori’s Two-Faced Mask, you need to get a specific traveling merchant to visit Atsu’s campsite and then purchase the mask from him for 1,000 mon. This merchant doesn’t appear often, but you can increase your chances of seeing him by repeatedly using the campfire to pass time. There’s also a way to buy the mask for only 250 mon if Atsu rejects the merchant’s initial offer, but getting this deal requires triggering the encounter again, which can be a bit of a hassle.
