As a seasoned adventurer with countless hours spent traversing the vast landscapes of this enchanting realm, I must say that my latest quest to retrieve the elusive Green Orb was one for the books. The journey to the quaint village of Theddon was fraught with peril and intrigue, but the reward at the end was most certainly worth it.
In the re-imagined version of Dragon Quest 3, once you’ve gathered the three distinct keys, it’s time to hunt for the six colorful orbs. The game doesn’t offer much guidance, which sets it apart from many modern RPGs that flood players with instructions. This lack of direction can sometimes leave players unsure about where to start their adventure. However, they are free to approach this task in any way they prefer. This tutorial will specifically focus on the Green Orb, hidden within the enigmatic town of Theddon.
How to Find Theddon in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
After obtaining a ship from the King of Portugal, players can now navigate the vast oceans. This new freedom introduces a plethora of opportunities, one of which is discovering the town of Theddon. Your journey to this destination can begin either from Baharata or Wayfarer’s Shrine. It’s worth noting that the shrine is more accessible and is situated on the coastal strip west of Ibis.
As a dedicated cinephile exploring the virtual world, if you haven’t already, embark on your journey to the shrine from Baharata and sail westward. If your game settings include quest markers, you’ll find one at the southernmost tip of the western continent, just south over the mountain range from Ibis. To navigate towards Theddon, you’ll first need to circumnavigate the southern tip, then follow the river inlet along the southwestern coast until you reach a turn to your right. Theddon, nestled on a small peninsula, can be found at the end of that very river.
How to Solve the Theddon Jail Cell Puzzle in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
During your initial gameplay, numerous characters will come across Theddon early on and may find themselves puzzled by the seemingly impenetrable jail cell. Initially, it’s indeed unreachable. To progress with this mission, you need to obtain the Ultimate Key from Dragon Quest 3 Remake first. Remember to do so before attempting to get the Green Orb.
In the charming town of Theddon, there are numerous intriguing items to discover. One such item is the “Night Light,” crucial for resolving the enigma surrounding the jail cell and acquiring the elusive “Green Orb.” You can locate this artifact in an upstairs chest of drawers above the Equipment Shop, but remember to do so during the day, as the town’s inhabitants are out and about only at night. During the daytime hours, however, these residents transform into skeletons. The Night Light grants you the ability to toggle between day and night whenever it suits your needs.
As you venture into the town, you’ll stumble upon an old, dilapidated jail cell situated at its northern extremity. At dusk, this cell will be under watch, and within lies a prisoner with a visible quest symbol hovering above him. During daylight hours, the guard’s post will leave a crack open, allowing you to gain entry. However, during these lighter hours, the prisoner is nothing but a skeleton. This is because you require the Ultimate Key to access the living soul within.
After obtaining the Ultimate Key, make your way back to Theddon. If it’s daylight, step outside the village and either use the Night Light or cast the Tick Tock spell to transform night. Return to the jail cell and converse with the prisoner. He tries to hand over the Green Orb, but is abruptly interrupted by a foreboding voice. The source of that voice turns out to be the Dying Fire, a formidable enemy boss you need to vanquish.
How to Defeat Dying Fire in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
A Waning Flame is a formidable adversary due to its knack for producing duplicates. To make matters worse, the fight also involves spectral entities known as Phantasms, which are more advanced versions of Shades. Fortunately, these enemies possess vulnerabilities that can be effectively taken advantage of, particularly if you have reached a moderate level of advancement.
The “Fading Flame” is vulnerable to “Zap-type spells”. With “Zapple”, you can easily eliminate a single Fading Flame. If we had “Kazap” (which we don’t yet), the battle could be nearly effortless. Concentrate your Hero on casting Zap-variations on each Fading Flame, while the rest of your team focuses on defeating the Phantasms first.
Phantasms are weak to Crack spells. Our Mage and Sage both had Kacrack when we entered this fight, and it made short work of the Phantasms. If you have dual casters, use one to constantly hit them with ice, and the other to switch between attacks and healing. The Dying Fires aren’t weak to Crack, but they have 0% resistance, so it is still worth using Kacrack on the lot of them.
As a cinephile, I always ensure I’m equipped with gear that nullifies instant-death spells, given that the menacing Dying Fire characters often unleash their Whack spell. In encounters where multiple Dying Fires are present, the likelihood of one striking increases significantly.
After the battle concludes, the player will acquire the Green Orb. If it’s their initial orb, think about obtaining the Red Orb afterward, and then proceed to the Blue Orb.
