As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Modern Warfare 3 Zombies has always been a thrilling ride – but nothing quite prepares you for the enigma that is the Science Journal. After countless hours spent mastering the art of eliminating zombie hordes, I finally found myself on the trail of this elusive relic.
In Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, players can amass a diverse assortment of goods, some of which they can withdraw and save in their inventory for later use. These items include Schematics, but also peculiar artifacts that frequently relate to mission tasks or extra safety zones called Rifts.
Alongside other enigmatic artifacts, you’ll encounter the “Science Logbook” once you’ve wrapped up the Act 4 Story Mission: Union. Contrasting with the Giraffe Toy, which players easily obtain by fulfilling mission goals, the Science Logbook’s acquisition method is less straightforward.
How To Get The Science Journal
Unlike what many think, vanquishing the Storm Caller does not grant the Science Journal to players. To get hold of the Science Journal, they need to slay a cumulative number of 50 Zombies amidst the Aether Storm.
As a gamer, I’ve learned that the Aether Storm can pop up all over the place, but you can always spot it on the tactical map as a big, purply-dangerous zone. However, strolling into it without proper gear is a recipe for disaster. The zombies inside the Aether Storm are supercharged, tougher than the zone they’re in. To boost my chances of survival, I make sure to carry a weapon that’s been Pack-A-Punched to at least Tier 2 or higher, or I’ve got a powerful Wonder Weapon like the Scorcher at the ready.
After players manage to slay a combined total of 50 Zombies during the Aether Storm, a special Reward Rift will pop up close by, holding the Science Journal. At first glance, this journal might seem unimportant, but it needs an upgrade before you can utilize it for its primary function.
Players can save and carry The Science Journal either in their backpack or Acquisition Stash, enabling them to use it in a future game.
How To Upgrade The Science Journal
After grabbing the Science Journal, I can advance to the Tier 3 Zone for an upgrade. The place you want to head is the western part of Old Town (marked F4 on your tactical map). Over there, you’ll need to find a distinctive triangular marking on the ground, stand on it, and then blast three glowing purple runes. You should be able to spot them from the triangle’s position.
If the three purple runes do not appear in this location, then another player has, unfortunately, already activated them. This will mean that players will have to try again in a separate deployment.
After finishing this step, a considerably bigger triangle will become visible near an eastern building. Then, move northward, bypassing the two bridges that lead to the triangle, and instead, climb on the stone structure overlooking the staircase leading to Pack-A-Punch. From this elevated position, gaze towards the triangle.
Performing this action triggers a ceremony, resulting in the appearance of a Soul Box and an influence zone surrounding the player. Hordes of Zombies will continuously appear, and the objective is to eradicate sufficient numbers inside the influence zone to fulfill the requirements of the ritual.
As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I would strongly advise sticking around the stone structure when battling zombies in this game. The reason being, there seems to be a crucial moment when the prompt “perform the summoning” pops up, and that’s when you need to be ready to react swiftly. When that happens, don’t forget to hold down the interact button to complete the action. Failing to do so could potentially cost you the chance to upgrade your Science Journal, an essential item in your quest. So, my fellow players, stay vigilant and keep your eyes peeled for that prompt!
Once sufficient Zombies are eliminated, the impact zone will vanish. If players successfully initiate the summoning process, packs of Hellhounds will be summoned instead. Defeating the Byamawl Hellhound boss will open a Reward Rift, which holds a golden version of the Science Journal as its prize.
Players have two options with this Science Journal: they can keep it for immediate use in the ongoing game, or choose to store it for a future match.
How To Use The Science Journal
As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share that one essential item for opening the Dark Aether Rift Portal (E4 on my tactical map) near the Unstable Rift linked to the Story Mission: Union is the Science Journal. To activate it, I need to position the golden version of this journal onto one of the Pedestals within the area. Furthermore, I’ll also require a Giraffe Toy, a Laptop adorned with Stickers, and an Imaginary Friend Drawing to place on the remaining three pedestals to construct the Rift Portal successfully.
